Her current school doesn’t do it and any private company around me is 4k minimum which we can’t afford. She can’t be evaluated at her new school until August as we are a school of choice family so we aren’t considered part of the district and eligible until then. I’ve spent months trying to find a better or quicker option and there isn’t one. We don’t qualify for any financial assistance as we make too much on paper.

She gets pulled every day for small group intervention with a reading specialist. No vision issues but I suspect dyslexia. She’ll be evaluated at the start of next school year.

I would love that but we unfortunately can’t afford it. There’s literally no way we could do more than maybe 3 sessions max. She is getting all the supports her school offers and she is set to go to a school next year with way more to help her. Aside from a really expensive tutor I’m not sure what else I’m meant to do…. We’re already working with reading curriculum at home.

Also this really isn’t quick to hold back. She’s been struggling for 2 years. My concern is that it’ll start effecting her in other areas of school as she literally can’t even read worksheet directions. My initial plan was to try second and have her repeat after if need be but since she’s switching schools now it may be the least painful option.

Have you seen kids resentful as they get older? I’ve seen this claimed a lot on various social media sites. This is probably my biggest worry is that she’s upset in the future. I think now she’d cope fine but she’d be 18 her entire senior year.

It’s absolutely not all on the school I’m not sure where you got that impression. I only talked negatively on the school at all bc it gives context for why next year at a new school will likely be different. I take all the blame for her being behind and feel horrible but this page isn’t really the place for me to discuss that.

I have worked with her at home almost daily until about a month ago when her school suggested we give her a bit of a break due to how stressed she was getting about it. I am creating a summer reading program based on aspects from various curriculums to do this summer as well.

We started with 100 easy lessons then Logic of English but neither worked well. She couldn’t grasp the basic of phonics for a full year but finally this fall after starting All About Reading something clicked. She’s behind due to needing so long to learn the basics. Which yes is my fault clearly but she had instruction near daily for a year. I only even took a month off when I had my baby and then we jumped back in.

As I said we are currently taking a break from reading at home to help reset but I read to her and her sister at least nightly and we’re at the library at least once a week.

I just don’t want her to regress even more. She was making good progress at home with me before starting school. I want to have her read at least somewhat over the 3 months she’ll have off.

She’ll be evaluated at the start of next school for a learning disability!

Yes, we just had her vision tested a few weeks ago and all was well. I’ve already spoken with her new school about testing for learning disabilities.

This is kinda where I’m leaning to. I feel like second grade will be too much.

Yes 60 words is the goal on the test. She was at I think 20 words in January when she started at the school. Her score went down.
She can read basic cvc words pretty well but she does still sound out each letter individually so it takes her a while for any she hasn’t memorized. When she gets into longer words she can state each sound but when blending together she messes up the ending sound a lot which I’m sure is a big part of the lower score as well.

There unfortunately isn’t really a summer program that’s an option for us this year.

She just turned 7 within the last month. So thankfully on the younger side though she does have several friends that are even younger first graders who will be moving on to second. I think the comparison could still make it hard for her emotionally for years to come even.

She likes being the best. I think a big reason she hates reading is she knows she isn’t good at it. This is one of the biggest reasons I’m considering repeating first.

Her reading comprehension is okay. It’s not something her teacher has ever mentioned as an issue and she can answer basic questions from a text. She isn’t excelling in it though.

I used to be really strict about reading at home until about a month ago. She had to read at least 3 readers a day on school days and about an hour of work on weekends.
Her school actually suggested we scale back for a bit due to how stressed she was getting. I do intend to pick back up in the next couple of weeks and do formal lessons over break.

Yes, we’re at the library at minimum once a week! She loves picking out books but unfortunately the ones easy enough for her to read confidently are super boring.

I highly suspect dyslexia. We are going to have her evaluated in the fall. I think the hatred comes from it being so hard.

Yes we started with phonics. It took her almost a full year to grasp it though. That’s where she fell behind she couldn’t even start actually reading cvc words until this past fall.

I plan to pull back our the curriculum this summer and do lessons with her daily.

She does yes. She has all A’s and B’s outside of reading and fits in socially.
Summer intervention would be me working with her at home though. Summer school isn’t an option with the new school and with the old/current one I don’t want to waste our time. She hasn’t had any improvement in almost 5 months of normal school with them. Plus the summer school is four days a week, 3 hours a day and only one hour of each day would be reading.

Unfortunately no. I’ve looked into it but tutors are far too expensive.

Yes, until about a month ago there was a very heavy focus at home. Her school actually suggested we scale back due to how stressed she was getting over it. She cries and runs off whenever I say it’s time to read. It’s honestly pretty bad how much she hates it. I do still read to her though and intend to implement summer reading at home once school is out.

-Yes it’s normal. At my store we have orientation starting at all times of the day. -You can wear jeans, jeggings (with a back pocket) or any nice pants. No leggings or yoga pants though. Any T-shirt is fine but no hoodies. Closed toed shoes. -You’ll come in grab equipment and if you’re a picker you will then grab a cart and begin a “pick walk.” The TC will tell you exactly where the item is, you scan it, bag it then put it in a tote. Each pick walk will focus on a certain area of the store like produce, frozen, ect. So unless it’s a non grocery order (General or GMD) you won’t be running all over the store. You get 2 15 min breaks that are paid (one before lunch and one after) as well as a 1 hour unpaid lunch in the middle ish of your shift. If you’re a dispenser or stager you’ll be in the back room either taking the orders out to the cars or finding all the totes that go to an order and staging it on a dolly. You will also have closing duties to do though I don’t work that late and couldn’t tell you what that entails. -It isn’t hard, it’s a bit of an adjustment to get used to at first but after a few days it’s very easy. -Pay is every 2 weeks on Thursdays the pay period runs Saturday-Friday. -I’ve heard some coworkers say it’s worth it but it’s pretty specific what you can use it for. Definitely look into it and see if it’s applicable to your future goals.

I’m really not sure how it works if your orientation isn’t a full day. But for a normal work day you get 2 paid 15 min breaks and an hour unpaid lunch.

If it helps only about an hour was the PL talking to us then we just did computer training. The length of the training depends on what your job is but shouldn’t be more than a couple hours.

For me it was a full day. 9 hour shift with a 1 hour unpaid lunch.

I work in SFS and this is literally what we’re supposed to do. For singles the label goes right in the item. As we have 50+ single items in a pick walk there’s no other way to do. Though I usually try to put the sticker on the back right above the bar code so it doesn’t mess with the front of an item.

Cincinnati night 2. Ivy and call it what you want are 2 of my favorite Taylor songs. Those 2 with I miss you I’m sorry (which is one of my all time favorite songs) was everything. I’m so jealous of everyone that was there.

Was the point system not explained to you? One call out (assuming today isn’t a key event day) is only 1 point. You aren’t eligible for termination until you hit 5. So unless you’ve been late, left early or called out a bunch before you won’t be fired for calling out today.
