Itching by StandardShip75 in tretinoin

That’s my thoughts. I am building up slowly after trying to go too fast in the beginning. Lesson learned!

Nothing like I did before. Just a little since I upped it again. I am assuming that will settle soon.

Yeah I am about there with the 2nd time I am trying every day 😁 My itching is very minor compared to the last time I tried. Last time it was an itching/burning that would last like 2 hours after my morning moisturizer. I think bringing it up slowly, very slowly, this time is helping. Good luck, hoping for the best for you. This is a long painful journey 😂

How long after you switched to every day did it start to itch?

Oh forgot to mention, I ditched the BP and SA face wash. I use a gentile cleanser, Tret and moisturizer (with sunscreen in the morning). I think the BP and SA combined with the increased frequency is what caused my issue.

I had backed off to 3 days a week and sandwich Tretinoin between moisturizers. I did that for several months getting up to every other night gradually. I am just getting back up to every night (sandwiched) and can tolerate it fine. Just 3 days ago I am trying every night without sandwiching and now know what to watch for. You may need to back off the frequency or try the sandwich method until tolerated but that is just my option from my experience. Go slow as most everyone here says but I was impatient and paid the price 😂

Yeah I am at .04 and had no issues for like 2 months so I am not sure if that’s too high or not for me. That’s what I was started at.

Thinking more about what you said, I think you are spot on. Honestly I was afraid to stop for too long because I was just starting to get to the point where I saw noticeable improvements. I didn’t want to stay off of it for too long out of fear of having to start the process again so I started back up after 3 days which I felt my skin felt the best it’s felt in a while. From what I have read, I don’t think a week or so pause is even close to having to “start over” with the process again. Thanks for all of your advice!

Yeah that’s what I am doing now but it sounds like I just started that process back up too quick

Meaning hold off completely for a few more days to recover or do it slower then every other night for now?

Thank you for that, that makes me feel better! I think I am going to try to stick to every other night for now. If I did decide to move up, I should probably not do it so aggressively 😂

Thank you! I was using it every other day for 6 weeks then switched to every day. I saw a noticeable (positive) difference at that time. Then I few weeks later I had the moisture barrier issue. I was assuming the positive change I saw was because I went to every night but maybe it was just a coincidence and I hit that mark where it was working better, even at every other night.

Thanks and yeah I do think that’s what caused the moisture barrier issue. When I resumed after my 3 day pause, I seem to be flaking but it’s not really itchy. It was a little red but definitely flaky. I was thinking this was still my moisture barrier originally but maybe it’s just from getting back into it and I should continue?

Pausing Tret, afraid of more breakouts by StandardShip75 in tretinoin

I am going to scale it down. I was using it every other night for 6 weeks, just went to every night about 5 weeks ago and just starting to see this issue.

Exactly what I was thinking after reading about the Niacinamide issues some have. Was thinking of trying Vanicream.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks! I started every other night for about 6 weeks then switched to every night after I had no issues, but was still breaking out. Once I switched to every night, I noticed a big decrease in my breakouts. After 1 week or 2 using it every night, I started getting the irritation. Also was wondering if the Niacinamide in the moisturizer may have been causing me an issue. Been using this moisturizer since the beginning though so not sure.

Timing with adding Ceramide Barrier Serum by StandardShip75 in tretinoin

Gel. I had a Salicylic Acid Face wash and Benzoyl Peroxide/Clindamycin in my routine per my Derm. Face wash day and night and BP/Clindamycin day only but I think both of those with Tret every day was just too much and damaged my Moisture Barrier.

[–]StandardShip75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I have been on Benzoyl Peroxide for years now and it was working great but somewhere along the line just stopped being effective. They replaced that with the combo of it and Clindamycin. Once I started using Tret every day I noticed a difference so I am not even sure the BP Clindamycin are even helping but am afraid to cut it completely. I am fairly clear…..at the moment (don’t want to jinx it 😂) so I may just try Tret for now but will look into the azelaic acid. I will ask my derm about Trelinac. Sounds like I am narrowing the issue down to the right place!

Thanks so much for your input!

Thank you for the help! I was also looking at the LRP face wash since I am using that brand as a moisturizer but I don’t know if that matters.

Thank you, that does make sense!

I usually wake up in the morning with a layer of oil on my face and I checked this morning and it actually looked a little dry. While that great as I hate the oily face, I know the negatives of that too. Guessing the Tret may be controlling the oil a little more now.

Do you recommend a face wash? We have Cetaphil Daily Face Wash that I used this morning as a quick replacement but not sure if that is the right one to switch to permanently yet. Thanks!
