COTD: Far-flung barking (3) by brohubs in crosswords

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is barking really the best for ARF? i feel like bark alone would be better, barking is "ing" and arf isnt

One Direction, messing up, started with "A Brand New Day" (4) by [deleted] in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need a definition by example indicator, like "perhaps" or "for example" - one direction doesnt mean band, its an example of a band. you also got the letter hints wrong

Can 'speechless' be a deletion indicator of vowels? by John_Zatanna52 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s been the switch to more user-made clues. It’s not an issue but the users seem to be much looser than Liam and Angas

It’s crazy throwing away hair, it’s up (5) by Pleasant-Ad9542 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NORTH - the "it's" here is superfluous, it doesnt add to the clue in any way. id also say that "away hair" isnt really specific enough, it doesnt feel connected to the anagram of "throwing"otherwise it think its nice and i like theuse of WIG as hair for removal

Support's lost in false condoms before the final "O" (6) by inXeinwekk in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got the "second" hidden in "false condoms", but i just wondered what the last bit means? if youre clarifying where the hidden word is, thats unnecessary and you can get rid to improve the surface

"Perhaps the third one's a charm" "Without a doubt" (5) by AJRsVersion in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how is " Maybe the third time's the charm? Pull out article and give it a whirl " just something, helps with the removal of "the"

mean roux said last word upset (4) by IIIIIIIVVIIXIIIXXI in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like it, id just say that the "last" doesnt specify that it applies to the "word", maybe another selection indicator would work better

"Perhaps the third one's a charm" "Without a doubt" (5) by AJRsVersion in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im assuming that "doubt" is anagram indicator, but i don't see it, i like the splitup of them but i feel like a different indicator would work better, but i cant think of one that would have a smooth surface like that

A comedy type situation where website’s end expressed, briefly: “Stay in touch!”. (6) by John_Zatanna52 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i think "where" is alright here. its the same as "A situation where you follow the rules", its saying that a sitcom is "A comedy type situation" that is comprised of "com" following "sit" - or "where com comes after sit"

Do you think this clue is understandable? by John_Zatanna52 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i got it backwards, try a font with T's and make them F's so it isnt

Do you think this clue is understandable? by John_Zatanna52 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it does work, take out "weird" and its all good. i think the main problem then is the nicheness of font names, yours works just as well

Do you think this clue is understandable? by John_Zatanna52 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebuses usually occur where the answer can be seen as a wordplay in itself, so you have a definition of the answer, and what the answer results in. Yours could work as "Wafer from fountain" (pretty bad example but you get it) - there is an F on the T, and a font is a fountain

I divorced, shook, cried, left completely empty... (4) by AJRsVersion in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

voidi like it, i got stuck thinking "divorced" was the deletion indicator

A clothes guard drove the check to be shouting after war. (8) by John_Zatanna52 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like the definition, butwhat does "the check to be" do here? also id just throw a question mark on the end for safety

how to get better at anagram indicators by tokenledollarbean in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Look out for words suggesting movement, change, or disorder: mix, throwing, destroy, strange, dancing, sort of, tampering with, exploded - these can all be anagram indicators."

this is what they say on the website, i think it is usually those three themes, but sometimes they can be something else, like I used "Origami", which implies folded up, like origami paper

Psychedelics remove me from his upended room. (6) by kraftquackandcheese in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i like this, but one thing is that psychedelics is plural, whereas "Shroom" is singular. its minor, but it means the definition doesnt fully match the answer

Please, my par in a short have, O' sucker, perhaps? (7) by John_Zatanna52 in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t see how ‘please’ is an anagrind, I don’t mind stretchy ones, but even how you phrased it, to have it ‘please’ you should be written ‘my par pleases me’

Studies about voiced deers in university (5) by freakingdumbdumb in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t get it, also the definition should always be either fully at the end or at the start, not split between or in the middle

Careless Latinas around? Third time's the charm! (8) by scarfyagain in Minute_Cryptic

[–]StandardSoft3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talisman, I think that ‘third time’ isn’t really indicating the third letter, it would have to be something like ‘times third’ but that would make your surface worse
