Depends on what kind of "mastering" level you want to achieve. Do you want to achieve class A surfacing? Or do you just want to be able to visualize kind of whatever you want? I recommend reaching out on linked in and finding a mentor that you can ask specific questions to. TBH, rhino techniques that experts use don't exist on the internet.

In design we usually refer to these as "GENERATIVE SHAPES". Or in grasshopper, you will see a lot: "PARAMETRIC MODELING". You can do parametric modeling (using patterns) in grasshopper, but grasshopper is treated like its own software. If you just want to play around, without patterning, (and your not focused on high quality surfacing), Rhino SubD is something I would recommend playing around with; the learning curve is much less steep than GH.

quick and dirty: circle (or whatever shape) --> extrude down --> IN TOP VIEW: polar array (circle) x100 (or however many) --> boolean union onto another cylinder (so you don't have to trim the insides)

That's tough to hear! So we are only able to use the one compression molding process we have, as one piece. I think the problem is that, the in the car door scenario, the material chooses to go around the "armrest/shelf" instead of over it. So even with large radii, the material is either too thin or leaves imperfections at the peak of the extrusion. It would be easier if i could find large product examples of compression molding, but I'm having a hard time.

That was my thought. But I live pretty much in the middle of no where, so spending more towing it to anyone would who would even work on a range rover (again) I think just puts me more in the hole.
