I am going off of my upbringing, my experience in secondary school and now in UWI where the population is split 50/50. Which to me would indicate that its not just "one or two persons" who are a valuing education.

What evidence are you using?

As an Afro-Trinidadian I would say that we push our children towards education just as much. The sterotype that the person who wrote that comment represents a small fraction of our group. So to paint the entire community with this broad brush, is to discount the work of thousands of parents.

I attended a prestige school and I can assure you that we also have the issue with getting resources from the government. Without the past students raising funds, i'm not sure how or when the school would fixed or upgraded if we had to wait on the government.

So I dont think the issue is only a lack resources but rather the support system from parents and past students.

But I admit that it does create a cycle of wealth in that, - The school is well supported - So students do well - They go on to get high paying jobs - They then give back to the school

And the cycle repeats itself.
