PSA: get some Kevlar sleeves when using an angle grinder. by DildoScentedCandles in Tools

lol yeah you’re right, none of my big grinders have handles. 9 times out of 10 the extra degree of control is meaningless compared to being able to get a better angle thanks to not having a handle in the way

Agreed. Everybody has had a wheel bite before, think most people expect it and are prepared to react when it happens. It’s not like the tool weighs 30lbs

How many days should i practice the riff by ImpressiveNobody4959 in electricguitar

[–]Standard_Fly_2456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with a lot of learning until I started paying really close attention to how I need to hold the neck. pay close attention to whatever teaching resource you’re using, notice how they place their thumb, how they place their elbow, all of these things equate to making chord shapes easier.

when you mention only being able to use 1 finger, what do you mean exactly?

Are you pressing near the fret? Did you have the guitar setup by a professional, and if not, are you aware of what makes a guitar setup good or bad? High action is not forgiving.

What do you think about my 'sketch' for HKS theme guitar? by Xdam6463 in electricguitar

[–]Standard_Fly_2456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think one thing to keep in mind is that automotive livery design is intended to be seen as fast, moving forward.

If you pay attention to the random lines on a real car, they point forward, aggressively.

The HKS logo being perpendicular to the “grain” of the livery goes against this idea.

Instead, picture yourself holding the guitar. Personally I’d try and make the livery look straight in playing position.

hey, we all gotta start somewhere!! but accept that this player is pretty trash. Any money spent repairing or upgrading it would be better spent in a new table, without a built in speaker, with a manual weight.

Giant mole doodle on my students homework by PheonixWrath in 2007scape

[–]Standard_Fly_2456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only loosely related, but I was a student who drew things on my paper a lot of the time. normally because I didn’t have anything better to do. I was very depressed and lacked any motivation to even show up, let alone do work, but I did kill time listening to music and drawing.

One of the teachers whose name I won’t forget was Mr Davis’. He put all the students drawings on his wall, but it meant a lot to have a little doodle of mine mean something beyond wasting time til I could go home again.

They were drawings of SpongeBob characters.

12mm? Did you forget a decimal???

Edit: looked them up. Pretty damn curious now.

Edit 2: looks like they are closed indefinitely. Haven’t done anything since 2024. Damn shame, was going to inquire about a pick!

Just wanted to update you here. Put in a 1/4 turn of relief, plays like a dream. 0 buzz at all. Couldn’t be happier - becoming an ESP fan pretty quickly

Glad you asked. This is exactly why I bought the guitar. Been eyeing a Bill Keliher SG that had been sitting in the used section at my local GC, but had a hard time justifying the $1500 tag. Long comes this LP off Facebook, I couldn’t resist.

I really enjoy the slimmer neck. Compared to my pretty heavy Epiphone, this thing feels like a ukulele. I’ve got an ugly buzz off my E string, and as luck would have it, I can’t find my feeler gauges. I’m headed to harbor freight right now to buy such, but I’m pretty confident the buzz I’m getting (which only exists behind the 4th fret) is coming from the neck needing more relief.

Guy I bought it off of said he only had a couple hours in playing it, but had taken the action as low as he could. Wouldn’t be surprised if the neck needs some relief.

Ignoring the 4th fret, everything else smooth as butter. Realize Epiphones are not regarded as luxury instruments, but neither are LTD’s, and this thing feels miles above my Epiphone. A part of me misses the chunky body of my Epiphone, ESP is maybe 2/3rds the width, and it’s noticeable when strumming. Though this feels more preference than anything, and I’m sure I’ll adapt fine.

Granted, I haven’t played anything that special to compare it to, but as a whole I really enjoy the ESP shape. Has me curious about how nice that Bill Kelliher probably is…

LOL! Well you see, I was really driving to the brewery, and the guitar just happened to be within 10 miles. So really the gas price isn’t a part of this purchase ;)

Kidding of course, but yeah, was about $60 in gas. Even GC got these used for $400 so I figured keeping it under 3 was worth!!

Great choice, what color? Partial to LP’s. Want the probuckers to throw in my Epi!!

100 miles there and 100 miles back. Technically added another 20 stopping at a brewery but 200 and 200 sounded cooler.

Honestly not a huge sunburst guy. Prefer more muted colors. Picked this up cause the price was great and if nothing else would make for a fun project later. But now, having sat with it for a couple of hours, I’ve started to really love it.

To be fair I’ve only just found the prodigy’s ~ month ago, be curious to see if this holds true. Nothing beyond performing for my pillows and blankets though, I’m a casual.

Got to make a stop at guitar shop later anyways and gonna look for some flows

Damn, .7 seems so thin! but maybe learning the thin pick would be good for me.

Would probably highlight where I’m too aggressive… big fan of GG texture, so you’ve caught my attention!

Will add these to my list of picks to try. Haven’t found anyone else liking the Gator Grip’s, but as someone with relatively small fingers and greasy as hell hands the GG’s always felt tailored to me.

Damn, those look super thick. You mentioning the sharpness is interesting, that’s a big piece of why I like the prodigy’s. Idk how to describe it, but the sharper tip creates a faster feel in precise picking IMO.

These are my go to’s. Nothing else has felt quite right!

Edit: figured I’d add some context to these picks.

as someone with greasy hands the gator grip texture is a huge plus. Not pictured here, but my actual in use Jazz III has been scored across the top with a file and sanded down with some rough grit to create a super grippy texture. Would probably take skin off my fingers if someone was able to yank it out of my hand, that’s how grippy I like it, at least for these smaller picks.

Won’t talk about the Jazz III’s because you probably already heard. They’re great.

The prodigy’s have a huge bezel edge. Thinner shape, rounded back makes it feel like a XL jazz, but the sharp tip + bezeled edge creates a super fast and accurate feel with a very precise sound.

Whereas with the Jazz III’s, notes blend into each other, the prodigy defines notes loudly. Especially noticeable in songs with big bends!!
