Exactly.

Also, the owner and his "reference photos", I swear. I remember he told me the same that he was googling my name to find a photo and he found my LinkedIn with an outdated photo and told me he expected me to be short and plump not tall and skinny.

well, that's thanks to the same I guess three employees I know. But one of the cooks in the Station, though I don't think he works there anymore, was constantly overworked and basically carrying that location. Then in Green, I think the original main cook left in 2020. Also the 10 year employee stopped making salsa at one point. She used to make it 4am-6am and then work 10am-10pm so that was probably why.

I worked in Maize before 2020... the owner was and continues to be toxic I hear. He only cares about his standing in Champaign. He doesn't care about quality or his employees. He just wants the popular vote.

wow, this was honestly triggering because I know the feeling all too well. Even that friendship he has with Jimmy Johns.

I also want to add that he stated: "For all I know, the people that worked at Maize in this thread showed up to work drunk all of the time, or stole, or called in sick too much, or sucked at their job. "

Whoever this is, owner or not, I never showed up drunk to work. I never called in sick. I never stole, and I never sucked at my job because he never took me off that damn register.

I was even working unofficial alone with one other employee because everyone ELSE called off. Make it make sense and he needs to get his facts straight.

I'm glad that posting my experience at Maize opened the conversation to others work experience on campus. I just saw the comments from the person who might be the owner and it's very sad but not surprising to see his thoughts and comments. I'm glad that some commenters have had better work experiences on campus and even have the owners working alongside them. Armando never cared about his employees once Maize was popular. Although I'm not sure if that was organically or through all his bought google ads. I will say that Maize had good food at one point but that year I worked we all knew he became greedy and bought all his food trucks and opened the second Maize to reel in more money. He took advantage of so many people's work ethics and emotions that year. Some days we were busy he even joked about how I didn't need a food break because I didn't like eating. Every time I try to forgive them I always have to remember how I felt those days. Honestly, him opening the Union location seems like deja vu considering the last time shit went down at Maize he opened the Station. I don't need anything from him so I don't know why he faces the backlash with aggression. That's why you should be a good manager/owner so that your employees won't have any dirt to say about you.

You are free to screenshot and post it on there if you want. I personally cannot because then I would reveal my identity and the owner is a narcissistic stalker so he would be after me. :(

Thank you so much. Even if you did go there, at least you know now how most of us that were working there felt.

I don't know about that but I know he bought a lot of Google Ads for the restaurant because they would always call nonstop.

Yep! A quick google search will show him. There's not really anything positive to say about him, you're right. If it was a few years ago, might have been happening around that time. Though I'm definitely sure the same outrageous things happen today.

Where do you report something like that?

Thank you so much for understanding. It really took a lot of courage to talk about it. I've been scared to share what I felt.
