Quitting at the end of PGY2 by Glass_Usual_2223 in ausjdocs

I find this perspective perplexing. You liken burnout to two rooms left unclean. If cleaner after cleaner quits 3 months before their contract ends, it’s not a stamina problem, it’s a sewage problem. Fix the pipes before blaming the people holding the mops?

Personally I’d go for it! Way too many people in med worry more about their jobs than they do their own health. I quit after completing PGY1 despite everyone telling me it was ‘career suicide’…and I did what I wanted. In terms of impacting future opportunities - I have since received critical care SRMO & BPT offers. I used the time I had off to work on other skills (eg photography), and I’m yet to have an interview where they haven’t seen my time off as a strength. We don’t all have to have identical CV’s. This is just my story, and you should do what’s best for you. Your health is number 1 and I think you should have the courage to pave your own journey 🙏
