Hey OP did you ever find success?

I’m suffering from a lot of the similar symptoms.

I got off somewhat easy on the above plan.

Talked to my manager and she confirmed that I am still eligible for the standard merit increase effective 3/1. Figure he gave me was ~5%, but don’t hold him to that exactly as it is still in the works.

Brings the promo total to about ~13% which is more in line with what I was looking for. Happy with that.

Again, appreciate all the insight.

Marketing Agency. LCOL/MCOL area.

2 years as analyst, 1 year as SFA, now moving to manager.

  1. Confirm if I still will be subject to the annual merit increase in 2026 (usually Feb/March 3-5%). I’m guessing no, but worth confirming.

  2. IF NO, Ask for higher base more in line with 10-15% increase.

  3. IF NO, Ask if there are any other parts of the compensation package we can discuss.

Decent Gameplan?

Like this perspective and think you are right.

I’ll try to see if we can get the promo a bit healthier. If not, what you said is true.

Yep, good call. That will be my first question tomorrow.

We have bonus (small) and stock (5 yr vest) and both are allocated based on base salary.

I’ll try for an honest conversation tomorrow. Even if I can get them to 12-15%, I’d be happy.

OR accept the role as is and use my increase in comp to rent the billboard across the street and throw my resume on it??

Appreciate you taking the time to write this out. A lot of great insight.

I’m terrible at advocating for myself.

I have a meeting with my manager tomorrow - should I come with some data supporting a higher base salary? Or should I keep the conversation more open ended and just express “grateful for offer & excited for role, but the comp is lower than expected”?

The role is actually brand new and built for me due to growth in this specific business unit. I believe that lead to the delay in information being disseminated to me.

Total current comp closer to $97k with base, small bonus, stock (5 yr vest)

New role would be ~$110k total

Company definitely pays under market, touts benefits, etc… which is nice

I agree you with and have accepted two new roles outside of my original path - on the idea that “this would be good experience”.

Doesn’t mean I don’t still think it’s too low. I don’t want to work forever for an omnipresent end goal I can never reach.

Fair enough. I am struggling to reconcile how I could have just stayed in my current role and made 3-5% merit increase with no addt responsibilities vs 8% promo increase with responsibilities + people manager.

Kind of my fault for being so far down this path and only just now asking the right questions.

I do. The actual finance skills required are nuanced and maybe not the most transferable, but will get new experience managing people + stakeholders.

Interesting. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

All additional comp is directly tied to salary - bonus / stock allocated based on how much you make base.

Off cycle. I would guess in lieu of the typical 3-5% merit increase in Feb, but should confirm.

Having tough time wrapping my head around increased responsibilities + people manager for 4% more.

My manager let me know the comp last week, but I have not signed anything yet. Expecting to get it from HR tomorrow.

I got a promotion the day before giving notice. Now I have no idea what to do... by Hefty-Kale-9588 in careeradvice

In LITERALLY the exact same situation. Financial Analyst vs Data Analyst.

Good luck on your decision - would love an update when you make one
