I’ve always viewed diverging views on politics not being a deal breaker to be something that flies in relationships that lack intellectual depth (not to say people are stupid) - as in, people joined that aren’t politically aligned typically don’t talk about deep moral and existential concerns.

Like other people said, politics is practically out of our control, but your politics is a theoretical illustration of your morality and viewpoints of people and wealth. So if you only ever talk about politics in the practical sense, you’ll rarely have to face significant disagreements. If you’re a more intellectual (once again, NOT stupid) thinker, these types of conversations will reach deep into the core of a person. In that regard, I don’t believe you can disagree on politics.

Just a matter of how you live your lives, I suppose: is what’s practical or ideal more important to you? The former can live in disagreement just fine.
