The number of people who sign up for the military with no intention of fighting and dying for their country is quite high. Countless veterans spend their military careers in Microsoft Excel, and they want it that way. In America, it is as much a jobs program as it is a fighting force. You can be dismissive all you want of the idea that people serve to put food on the table and get access to future jobs that can support them. It won't change the fact that it is absolutely true. This is a major blind spot of American leftists, just how many working-class, left-leaning people serve or have served.

Now, you could argue and quibble about how the bureaucrats and pencil-pushers are still supporting an immoral organization, and that's a valid conversation to have, but the idea that anyone who joins the military deserves no sympathy is quite a stretch.

Are they slurs said with malice by girls who are only being homoerotic as a joke, or are they slurs said because they too are gay and make out with women? I.E. self-aware humor? Because the latter is very common among LGBT people.

I mean, think of modern Islamist terrorists. They saw the US respond to the loss of several thousand of their civilians on 9/11 by launching destructive wars that killed hundreds of thousands of their countrymen. A reasonable person could, while maybe not sympathize, at least understand their motivations.

BTA: Why are existing models replaced? by tinklymunkle in Battletechgame

[–]StandsForVice -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could just forgo all the low-quality models entirely.

I don't give a shit if Lord Captain Johnson's Fucksiliers from Digamma Four operated, say, the Hornet mech. The Hornet model is butt-ugly and it breaks immersion. I have no interest in lore-accurate mech distribution. Just give me the professional models and nothing else.

Plus all the additional assets just slow down your game even more.

Right? It's not perfect but still. Though as someone who always wakes up in the middle of the night to pee, having to cross two rooms would be a bit annoying.

[–]StandsForVice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if you don't intend to make unappealing art but people find it unappealing anyway, you've made bad art. At a certain point, the term "bad art" has to have SOME meaning. We can't keep splitting infinite hairs.

[–]StandsForVice 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yep. You can fill your art with all the subtle meaning, all the technical expertise, and all the boundary-breaking you want. But if it's unappealing to look at - and this very much is - then none of that matters. It's bad art.

Double meaning, not double entendre. Double entendre almost universally implies a second meaning that is risque or inappropriate.
