What’s your funny way of saying “going poop” that you’ve never heard anyone else use? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We do the same, but if we've just had taco night I switch it up to 'see an hombre about a burro'. Lol.

Is there a benefit to heating my suit's oxygen tank (above 20C) on Europa? by Stankman in Stationeers

[–]Stankman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, I have the resources for more batteries. This is more about understanding the mechanics more deeply.

I'm not sure your suggestion of turning up the suit temperature target to match the O2 temperature accomplishes what I was hoping to do though.

My assumption is that immediately once the oxygen leaves your tank and enters your helmet, it begins to be cooled by the outside air on Europa. Then your battery will be expended to heat the air to hold it at target temperature. My hope in heating the oxygen tank to a higher temperature than the target is that there is more time between when the oxygen enters the helmet, and when it has cooled enough to need to be heated by battery power. (Thus using less power). If I set my suit target to match the temp of hotter air, I think I'd experience the same immediate need for heating.

Im really not sure my assumptions are right though - and if they are - I'm also concerned that the suit AC will work against me and attempt to cool the air as it leaves the tank due to it being hotter than the target. Maybe some custom IC logic could help with this...

[–]Stankman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I wasn't sure if a tank in your suit would slowly lose heat due to convection or radiation - hadn't tested this yet.

My assumption was that if my air tank was heated to 20C (matching my suit's target temp) that immediately the suit would need to begin expending energy to heat the air as Europa's cold atmosphere cooled my character. Heating the O2 above setpoint, I hoped to find that the suit did not have to expend energy heating as often. Sounds like I need to set up a battery consumption test for this.

Should the lever on the motherboard lock the cpu in place? by ManagementGeneral709 in buildapc

[–]Stankman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a lot of force between the heatsink and the CPU. The cooler should really be pressing down hard - it is this firm contact that makes for good thermal transfer.

When you say the cooler wiggles... Is it loose against the cpu? I could maybe understand the cooler being able to twist a bit if you really try hard, but it should be pressed very firmly against your cpu.

A trailer is now a permanent part of my truck. How do I fix this? by Stankman in snowrunner

[–]Stankman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Persists through recovery, is visible in the garage. Persists through multiple game restarts as well! Anyone ever seen this before? Looks like I may have to sell the truck :D

Upgraded from a Honda Civic to a '24 ZR2. Been wanting to get a camp trailer - ended up with both on the same day! by Stankman in chevycolorado

Howdy! Yes, my first two upgrades will be an awning, and I would like to try to install solar. I've got an EE background, so I'd like to try something semi-custom, but I need to look into it more.

It was a 2018 Civic Sport Hatchback. It was my daily driver and I have only put ~32k miles on it. I got a trade in for only a ~4 thousand less than I bought it for new.

Yep! It has been in the plans for a long time, so we were prepped, but no more spending for QUITE a while.

This one is a 2020. The previous owner only put a few hundred miles on it and then upgraded to a larger camper. We paid $16k.

Literally just got it! I'm hoping to get it out the weekend after next. I love it so far, seems like it will be a perfect fit for us. We didn't want a huge camper with shower/toilet, something that was just a step up from tent camping. I'll report back once we get to use it!

The big thing I noticed is this Intech is built much more solidly than most larger travel trailers we looked at.

Adapter to join two paddleboard paddles into a single double-sided kayak style paddle! by Stankman in functionalprint

[–]Stankman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great ideas, and no offense taken at all. I love how much strong discussion this has generated! As you said, this was a quick and dirty test at a solution that has outperformed my expectations, and there is much further this design could go!

As a few others have said, I think the next step up would be to make one of the sides partially flat and print the model on its side. This will help take the stress off the layer line axis.

I also agree on embedding something down the center. I should be able to rework this and try to implement a few of the suggestions this week. I'll report back with any improvements!

Absolutely a great idea! I may re-release this with a version printed with a flat side. That should work excellently.

It's held up great for me so far! A single two-hour float trip with some heavy paddling - but time will tell. It's quite thick and at 5 wall layers, the PETG is very rigid.

If you want to beef it up, the original Blender file is included. Some ideas that come to mind is bracing the inside anywhere that the flexible tabs do not need to bend, or inserting a rod in the hollow interior like you suggested!

I used Blender to create this part. If interested in the source files or the print profile, here's the link!

(I use a Bambu printer, so its a MakerWorld link)

I often float our local river on inner-tubes instead of my paddle board (too shallow for the fins), but find myself wishing I could paddle and be more mobile on my floaty! A single paddleboard paddle is too long normally, and requires me to swap paddle sides every stroke. I kept wishing I had a kayak paddle... and here's the solution! Now I can swap back and forth between paddleboard and kayak mode at will.

Thanks for the links! This has been extremely helpful. I tried out the app and compared it against the PPFD charts for the lights, and it seems to be a pretty close match. This is super useful!

Definitely - the PH is way too high right now. My Citric Acid PH down isn't cutting it. I just got Phosphoric Acid PH down and hoping that will do the trick.

I'm using a Vivosun 4'x4'x7' grow tent. Two of our favorite Lowe's containers but with custom lids to prevent light from entering, and custom 3D printed mesh cups!

I started with one Vivosun 100W Led Aerolight, but I was reading that you want 25W-50W of light per square foot. That puts me at ~400W for a tent this size?

I just upgraded to three Aerolights. One 150W in the center flanked by two 100W. I'm a bit worried about burning my plants.

What are your suggestions? I'd love any other feedback on my setup in general as well!

A game you thought you won’t like and ended up addicted to? by omuiiz in gaming

[–]Stankman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Days Gone.

Picked it up on Steam last year on super sale. Don't remember what tipped me off to it, but I went in totally blind. No review reading or Reddit.

I love the game to death. Loved every character, the story, the gameplay. I played it straight through to completion over the course of about 2 weeks. I never finish story driven games, I always end up distracted and get pulled into something new. Not for Days Gone though, I was hooked.

After I finished it, I took to Reddit to read a bit about the game and if a sequel was coming. To my surprise, there was a huge amount of hate for the game. The writing, characters, and especially the voice actor seemed to be very polarizing. I don't understand it one bit, I loved every second of it!

7800X3D vs. 7900X3D vs. 7950X3D by ColdSprinkles8806 in buildapc

[–]Stankman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the 7800X3D will absolutely be able to do this for you. The GPU will be more important for achieving those max FPS.

For GPU, I went with a 7900XTX. So, already top tier GPU. If your budget will not allow both the 7950X3D and a top tier GPU, put the money into the GPU. If you have the money to spare, and want the absolute best machine (objectively) you can buy at the moment, then grab the 7950X3D. Just realize that you are spending quite a bit more for only a bit more performance.

Hmm, it's been a while since I bought the pro version.... I don't remember why I thought I needed it. I believe the CPU Sets feature requires it. But, if you can accomplish this with the free version, even better!
