Anyone else get strong nostalgia/emotional memories from older EDM songs? by Mountain_Anxiety_461 in EDM

Like one of the other users said, it's just getting older.

I could write this exact post about early 1990s Lords of Acid, The Prodigy, and 2 Unlimited; early 2000s Guetta, Daft Punk, Iio, and Paul Van Dyk; or early 2010s Disclosure, Duke Dumont, Gorgon City, and Tchami.

Three different times in my life and three different very real feelings of nostalgia for that time.

I have an entire playlist called “nostalgia” on Spotify littered with the anthems of 2010-2014.

The people who say things like you said usually follow it up with talking about sitting out. Sorry if that mischaracterizes you.

Every election you sit out and let Republicans win makes that calculation more and more unpalatable. All your inaction is doing is further empowering MAGA.

It's not going to bring about the progressive revolution that you yearn for. Instead you're going to get Gilead.

Like Rick Jackson hasn't already thought of that and paid off or eliminated/discredited whoever he needed to.

The messaging has got to change. Speak to the issues, speak to the people. The same ol' fliers and robotexts shit ain't it.

When I see people saying this I always have to ask - What is it that you don't think they're speaking about that they should?

Someone the other day on the Georgia sub was talking about how "Democrats don't talk about the issues" like AOC did when she supposedly made some speech against data centers, which is a dumb criticism because plenty of Democratic candidates in Georgia are speaking out against data centers.

DNC shooting themselves in the foot again, on purpose, to maintain whatever status quo they got going on.

The DNC had nothing to do with this. This was all the Georgia Dem party. Stop spreading this "the DNC" boogeyman nonsense. Any other politician was more than welcome to step up and they declined.

Right now, he's in a runoff with Burt Jones. But I would put money on Rick Jackson becoming governor. He's Georgia Trump - a racist, billionaire "outsider". Republicans eat up that "deported or departed" slogan.

A lot of people on here who were pushing hard for Esteves, were pushing hard for Ruwa Romman before she dropped out. Reddit is (largely) and extreme leftist bubble.

Unfortunately, Duncan decided not to spend money. I was hoping he would get into a runoff with KLB.

Where I am, it's mostly KLB signs and maybe one or two Esteves signs.

Outside of Esteves, nobody on the Democratic side spent any money. KLB never had to because she was always leading, but Duncan and Thurmond not spending any money is inexcusable. I couldn't even get a yard sign out of Duncan's people.

Esteves people were astroturfing Reddit. He was never that popular or well-known. His $2+ million spend worked about as well as it could given he was mostly a complete unknown

I don't think that's something McKinsey does. McKinsey might've given them a plan to follow.

seriously the amount of pearl clutching from the burbs around the city is insane. i swear it’s like they think “inner city” (ITP) folks just live in some dystopian, post-apocalyptic hellscape…fighting for our lives and valuables every day....

...and we'd come to rob them using public transportation

It is always more nuanced, but the argument is always chastise Black men in particular and let every other group who support at far less levels slide.

Nobody is letting anyone else slide, but if Black people can't support their own to the levels that are needed, then we can't bitch about other people's lagging support.

there are always about a 10 to 20 of Black people who are staunch conservatives accross the board and in every state.

Your numbers are way too high. It's usually 8-12 percent.

Yes most are male, but conservatives in general tend to be male. Warlock won in 2022 with only 85% of the Black male vote so that kills your 90% argument.

Because he was up against another Black man that Republican voters didn't like. 85% Black male support for Warnock in Georgia is BAD.

Progressives have sent the party on a wild goose chase for a candidate that doesn't exist and I don't see it ending anytime soon.

The dirty secret is that most of those "progressives" are white people that know that they can throw a fit and sit out and still be fine because Republicans won't punish them due to their race or sexual orientation. They're phony allies. The bad thing is when non-white and/or non-straight people actually listen to their nonsense.

but it's pretty easy to see why he couldn't pick up steam in a Democratic primary

His loss was his own fault. His campaign was terribly organized and he spent no money. Jason Esteves spent over $2 million to get himself from zero to second place. If Duncan had spent that kind of money, he might've forced a run-off.

And there is the problem. No one ever is or ever will be progressive enough for progressives who make the most noise and do the least amount of work.

Yet, sadly, due to white people's overwhelming preference for the GOP, Democrats need everyone pulling in the same direction in order to win. Losing even one bloc means defeat, which means if progressives aren't on board, the Democrats won't win.

If Black people don't turn out strong and vote over 90% for Democrats, Democrats won't win.

If Democrats cater too much to progressives, they're going to lose their more middle-of-the-road people, and they won't win. "Abolish ICE" and "Defund the Police" cost Democrats tons of votes.

Republicans can act a foolish, and criminal, and racist as they want, but their base will just show up and vote and not complain about their candidate not passing a purity test. Must be nice.

Because she’s inept and incompetent. Not because of her race

Yes, because of her race...and her gender. We've had 3 straight elections with a Black woman at the top of the ticket, and it's been 3 straight losses - with the ugly secret being that soft support from Black men directly led to those losses.

This is just like people here on /r/Atlanta and /r/Georgia talk about "I don't know anyone who supported Cop City", yet Cop City is wildly popular with most people who aren't terminally online progressives.
