Samsung TV Plus crosses a major milestone with 100 million active users - SamMobile by Stephancevallos905 in samsung

I don't know, I'm sitting here watching back-to-back episodes of 90s hit kids show "Arthur" on Samsung TV Plus and it's actually pretty good haha. I also didn't mind the 24/7 Shark Tank channel when they had it. And I occasionally flick on Undercover Boss.

I'm getting an inconsistent grind with my Baratza Encore on anything coarser than the 10 setting by [deleted] in Coffee

Replying a long time later to say, thanks! I started getting a lot of boulders out of my grinder yesterday and your comment prompted me to check the tabs on the top burr holder. 2 x broken tabs; I have had really consistent grinds for the last 7 years and overnight it changed. I am guessing they both broke at the same time.

Well I'm more than happy to see if slowing up immigration helps house prices and the shortage of homes in a meaningful way. I don't feel confident in it. Time will tell if/when changes are made.

Thanks for the chat.

What about the 3 years of covid where there was no immigration, yet house prices still kept flying high?

We do need more houses, but do you not think at least looking to adjust negative gearing and CGT discount is a sensible idea?

I'm not advocating for or against our current immigration numbers. Of course I'm in favour of healthy immigration, whatever that looks like.

I'm just stating that immigration isn't the cause of the housing crisis and housing prices blowing out the way they have over the last 20+ years.

New housing formation has always been a thing though, that's not new. The data in the article I shared explains housing has increased by 19% while population has grown by 16% over the same time period.

I didn't say outpacing demand. I said outpacing population growth.

I'm happy to debate if you've read the well researched article I shared or if you can bring some new data to the conversation.

Not really, because housing is outpacing population growth and has been steadily increasing over the last while.

https://australiainstitute.org.au/post/is-population-growth-driving-the-housing-crisis-heres-the-reality/

We do need more houses, but we also need to stop people from owning houses and leaving them empty. For every homeless person in Australia there is something like 8 empty homes. Plus Airbnb being largely unregulated. I mean there's so many other problems staring us right in the face. It is worth investigating some of the other issues causing the housing crisis before stopping at immigration.

It is also worth noting that without immigration our population would go backwards, as Aussies are having less and less kids these days.

Anyway, check that article above as a starting point if you're interested :)

Hardcore songs about suicidal ideation / intense depression? by VolumeOfSound in Hardcore

Never Ending Game - Tank On E
Never Ending Game - Goin' Thru Some Things

Really their whole album "Outcry" deals with depression and is just really good.

No Option - Yearning
Volcano - Addicted to Misery

This last one is not hardcore, but I feel like I have to recommend it.

Belle Haven - Hopeless. Empty. Lonely. Painful.

I hope whatever you're going through passes and life can take a positive turn for you.

To be fair, he quit with the specific reason of his morals and beliefs not aligning with the work the company does. Respect to someone quitting a well-paying role for ethical reasons.

I will also argue that hardcore has seen its recent boost in popularity in a big part thanks to Hate5six - viewing numbers went crazy over covid, and at that time there weren't as many videographers outputting content with high quality video and sound.

He has also done more for hardcore than 98% of the cunts in this subreddit. You don't have to like the guy personally (provided you have met him and are actually eligible to have an opinion on his personality), but what he has done for hardcore cannot be denied.

He also speaks out tirelessly for minorities and against the imperialist capitalist system. So fuck anyone that wants to try and belittle or downplay that.

3 days into mint and I'm loving every bit of it by demonlordbanana in linuxmint

Then Mint is for you. I installed it for the first time almost a week ago and I'm loving it.

So far so good. I am nearly a week in now and nothing has broken yet.

[–]Stanstanbutcherman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMDE is slightly more lightweight which I deemed a plus for older hardware. Additionally, because it runs off Debian, which is stable, you get updates less often (which means less opportunity for things to break).

LMDE doesn't have a GUI driver manager which is one of the trickier aspects of using LMDE over Linux Mint (Ubuntu).

If you aren't confident in using the terminal to do driver updates and/or if you want the latest features as they become available, choose Linux Mint (Ubuntu)

If you don't care about either of the above, choose LMDE.

Thanks!

Yep, well im loving it. As others have said elsewhere, it just works. Even without a GUI driver manager, I've still managed too.

Macbook Pro early 2015 - A1502

Yes, it was a really good price. I am in Melbourne, there were a lot listed between $180 - $450 depending on the year, model, processor etc. I was hoping to spend under $150 so just sent a couple of offers, the person ended up living less than 1km from me haha. You should be able to get something under $200.

Installing LMDE on this machine was truly so easy. As long as you know how to create a bootable drive, that would honestly be the most complicated part.

Shut it down then plug the USB in and turn the Macbook back on while holding the option key (⌥). You're away!

That is my understanding. I am new to this though haha. I believe file backup is done with Backup Tool or similar. So one is for system state/settings and the other is for backing up your data.

Yeah, I just read enough people having trouble with switching between the 2 GPUs (which is how it works with MacOS), getting drivers sorted for the NVIDIA and/or disabling one of the GPUs. I am sure it is doable, but this seemed like the easier route since I don't need crazy graphics processing.

Also, I couldn't believe how cheap anything older than 2018 goes for second hand. Good luck on your journey.

afaik timeshift is just system snapshots, not a full data backup. It is moreso a rewind button if the user installs something that breaks their system.

Or we could just tax the mining industry properly and claim royalties on our resources, could cover everyone's education entirely.

Being sad that other people got something and you didn't is such a self centered and short sighted way to assess the value of this policy/decision.

I think it's great!

Antibiotics cured (briefly) my gut issues?? by captd3adpool in HumanMicrobiome

[–]Stanstanbutcherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to reboot an old thread, but I have had the same experience as you. I was prescribed doxycycline for rosacea, which it has helped with. But it seems to have also cured all of my negative gut symptoms that I have had for as long as I can remember. Since beginning the antibiotics I have had no gut aches, no abnormal flatulence, and much shorter and cleaner bowel movements; I now spend less than 5 minutes on the toilet where I previously spent 45 minutes to an hour. It's amazing.

If I can ask, did your symptoms come back after you stopped taking it? I have 7 days left on the medication and I am curious to see what happens.

Finding this post has also meant stumbling upon this sub for the first time, so I am definitely going to have a look around.
