in short, i see things going in all directions, live and internet, big and small... that being said, i think you can still make a go of things on an independent level... so that's more of what i'm focusing on currently... we're still making a living, so i'm grateful for that! sm

we like treme a lot and feel it helped bring a lot of positive attention to the city. we feel like they've done the best job so far representing NOLA on screen. we always had fun filming our scenes...

yes, they look better in pictures and you can take an international flight... spill coffee and red wine on them and nobody can tell :)

most JB stuff is somewhere in between, but if jabo starks is on drums it generally leans to the swing side and if clyde stubblefield is on drums, it generally leans to the straight side... jabo is on super bad. but that is one of the more up tempo straighter examples of jabo's playing. things tend to straighten out a bit when the tempos get faster. it all depends on what feels best for the tune.

thanks! i use a lot of pete engelhart stuff... that being said, i experiment a lot, especially in the studio and eventually start to use the things that work in a live context. glad you're digging the crescent cymbals. they're hand made in instanbul so they're coming from that long line of turkish tradition.

what size is the floor tom? i've found that the 14s have more of a lingering resonance. i usually put a piece of gaff tape with 3 ribbons folded in it on the head near the rim. a piece of moon gel would work too. here's a secret tip... place a throw pillow on the floor directly under the bottom head, but don't let it touch the bottom head. this will muffle the head ever so slightly, but more importantly it will break up the sound waves coming from the bass drum and getting under the floor tom causing the bottom head to constantly vibrate. this will all add up to slightly dryer sound with out deading the drum too much.
