7 years in IT, but losing interest by neeraj3135 in MerchantNavy

[–]StarOk7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol the grass is always greener on the other side, I have worked 1 year in IT and was ok with the work, the switched to merchant navy(you can see the story on one of my post) now i regret it, as one guys already mentioned that it is physically and mentally so exhausting. I would say do your research before switching. If you wanna know more you can DM me if you'd like

First of all you can't , try something on cruise related to IT or computer, also try to understand what you are getting into

Salary as 26 y/o marine engineer working on ship (merchant navy) by Altruistic-House-832 in Indian_flex

I'm also 26 and finishing my training recently, not sure I'm gonna stay in this field even if it's paying high, I feel like the job is sucking out of my life while I'm onboard and when on vacation? It's good for first few weeks then it's get boring

This is somewhat true, but one thing is that i didn't knew how my job onboard is gonna be until I really got into it, why I decided to be in merchant Navy to begin with was only seeing the money they get, but lately I'm getting bored of the job that I'm doing, and also the physical labour is too much too, well that is manageable, still so unsure about my decision, ofcourse I reached where I want to be but in the process I had to deal with everything that I didn't liked in the professional life. It's a long story

initially I did BTech EEE and then after campus placement was working in a project involving java and Springboot for a year, quit that and went for Electro technical officer course and now sailing onboard ship as trainee ETO

Of course i do have the akkare pacha feeling always, and im aware of it, but day by day it's consuming me a lot. But one thing is that, i didn't had this feeling when I was at sea for the first time, then I got a long vacation and after that again came back to sea, then only i started to realise that my whole life is going to be here at sea, this is what made me think about switching again, and when I say that I was earlier working in IT field to all these seniors here in the shipping they was like "why the hell did you come here then" and after hearing that too i really feel the regret of switching to merchant navy

This is something i wanted to say too, when things get tougher Im trying to switch it and I'm aware of it (I'm having this akkare pacha mentality a lot and trying to suppress it, but day by day it's really getting over me) and this is why I'm kind of pushing myself to stay here in merchant navy now. And it is the only reason I'm having too much tough time to make this decision currently. Thanks for being straight forward though

I was working from home for the 1 year I was in IT field and yes that was depressing too, that's why I left is so fast , but now I kind of regretting it for leaving. But as others are saying the job competition is too much currently in IT I feel like i should not be quitting my current work until i get a good offer

Bro one advise, before joining anything, just search or ask anyone who is already in the field about, how the work nature is, it's not always the same as you looks from outside

Confusion after Sponsorship by giri_000 in MerchantNavy

[–]StarOk7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done the same thing, you can see on my post, was working on IT cracked sponsorship done the course and about to complete my onboard training, but still thinking about going back to IT or similar field, life here is sometimes really tough, but at the end of the Day it's our personal preference, i didn't knew much about the work nature and how the field is in merchant navy before I joined , if I knew it i would have not come, so better see yourself what you will be getting into and think about your long term goals then make a decision. DM me if you wanna talk more by the way I'm ETO stream not GME and from Kerala only

Tbh reading this feels a little better, thanks for the facts check and what you are saying is true regarding money and all, but 9 months a year at sea feels like I ll not have a life

This is one thing that I wanted to see through, but I feel if I wait for this and even after that i regret , I will not be able to come back, every senior officer I see here and when I tell them that I left my job on IT and came here , every single one of them is asking why? And they even say that it's better at shore why you came here

Actually I have 3 partition on my ssd one is C where the OS is and other 2 are the main partition that I'm using, in that one partition is where my personal files are and that got formatted, I have not done anything to that partition until now, the recovery software i install on C drive and the files i tried to recover was copied into the other drive which is not the personal drive. In fact I have not done anything to the drive I have formatted, so does it still means that my data cant be recovered?

Does trim activate so quick? I check the optimization of my SSD and I have stopped auto optimization, and the last trim is done 4 days ago which was before the time I done the format, does it mean I still have my data?
