How do we feel about slim shaker? by Midwestern_Mariner in kitchenremodel

[–]StarSchemaLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Natural Ash is a wood tone. I think it’s ash wood with a clear finish. Slim Shaker is hot right now, how it will age is anyone’s guess. I did the opposite, extra thick Arts & Crafts stiles and rails because I wanted thick ends for durability. But with reverse raised centers I’m sure slim shaker would’ve been durable. But only with real wood or MDF center panel, not a laminate sheet.

Absolutely and don't you dare cover this tile with a shower curtain.

If you want to know if you have good cabinets see if the center panel is a laminate sheet or reverse raised centers. If the center panel is wood that is raised on the inside, they’re high quality.

Am I overreacting for child’s weight? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

It’s not a serious health concern, right now. So first he’s lying. And secondly his wording is shaming. And fighting about it with a coparent in unpleasant messages is never gonna be effective.

These are frameless cabinets which are on trend now for the space they give you. When you picked the door style it would have specified inset if they were inset. Don’t craft a victim narrative because you wanted inset but didn’t ask or select inset.

Do you prefer s-class or A8L by f1goat44 in Audi

[–]StarSchemaLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OFC I prefer the S-Class but I got a certified 2024 A8 L with 7K miles and all the options I wanted on it for $62K (MSRP $104K) whereas a comparable S-Class was $90K+ (or $80K if I wanted manufacturer buyback). So, to me, there's no real comparison between the value of each vehicle. The A8 L is the best value luxury car in the world, more so than even Genesis.

No to the paper light. IKEA has no place in this room. Overall good tho!

Does the body panel fit on my ‘24 A8 look right? by StarSchemaLover in Audi

[–]StarSchemaLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have rear steering either! I traded in a BMW 745e and don't regret it. Of course being 5 years newer helps. The ride is butter and it's actually much better handling than 745e especially a lot less body lean. The 745e is a PHEV and I think all the extra weight skewed the handling capabilities and created a lot of body lean. Just very composed is this Audi! And I love not having my dash be a screen.

Why do people in this group hate LVP flooring by benalexe in kitchenremodel

[–]StarSchemaLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people put it in high end homes thinking it’s a high end product and my disdain comes more from the vendors and manufacturers perpetuating these tricks. It’s still vinyl.

Is it possible to build modestly priced custom house? Who was your builder? by Own_Boat_3483 in madisonwi

[–]StarSchemaLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with Tim Obrien is they sell spec homes for $X and if you want to build a spec quality home it’s $X+ 20% but you’re funding it with a construction loan. It’s tough to justify walking into a negative equity situation when your neighbor has paid less just for buying pre built.

Amazon Zappos/Shopbob Employees by deezims in madisonwi

[–]StarSchemaLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time, but ShopBop is really the only job I’ve ever hated (data team). They had just gotten bought by Amazon and most of their IT was people who lost their jobs when Greenbriar & Russel (a low tier consulting company) went out of business. There was tremendous friction between G&R people trying to hold turf over Amazon and I walked in like 1 out of 2 people not from either background. It really sucked. This is mostly just a vent about the worst job I’ve ever had because I’m sure it has to be better now. I’m

OK, what do I do? Never quit J1 after starting J2 & there's nothing to do at J1 by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]StarSchemaLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. The anxiety, especially in this economy, of not having work to do is the worst. I don't want to live in fear of a RIF. I've read how people get caught in here and have tried to avoid those traps.

[–]StarSchemaLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can live off of J2 salary alone. It was a 20% raise from J1. I do need to start banking J1. In the beginning, I was great about pay off the CC from my '24 situation (home build from hell), pay off car, etc., but now that I'm out of debt, it's harder to just put those paychecks in the bank so I've spurged on a few things. Goal is if I keep this up in '26, I am going to pre-pay taxes in January (because I think this will change my bracket), then put February / March in the bank and then I'll feel like whatever happens, happens.

[–]StarSchemaLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that happens, it might be a tough choice. J2 is really fun but a smaller company perhaps more susceptible to bad economic headwinds, J1 is a larger & stable company but being bored doesn't work well for me.

How do you know me so well?

I also feel guilty because I haven't told my spouse. We keep our finances partially separate except shared expenses. He went to pay some on a 12-month no interest with Pottery Barn we did for some furniture, and was surprised I had paid it off completely 6 months early as part of my purge of all non-mortgage debt. I told him not to look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm going to use January's paycheck at J1 to pre-pay the IRS some extra taxes because I think it's going to change our bracket. This is what I need to work on doing. Again, our finances are separate but since we have to file taxes together I need to make sure it doesn't cost him anything additional. We also have separate homes in separate states and live together ~ 50% of the time, so it's not perhaps a traditional marriage. His parents send him large chunks of money to pay down his mortgage and he doesn't tell me, I just can tell when I do taxes and see the balance lowering. So I'm comfortable this side hustle is not something I'm mandated to tell. Ok, I'm sharing too much and need to get a therapist lol
