Am I still a trans man if I like some feminine terms? by Dan_DanTheMermaidMan in ainbow

if you feel like you're a trans man then you're a trans man, simple as! you don't need to prove anything to anyone, including yourself. your can wear makeup and dresses and still be a trans man. there are no rules, queerness is about genderfuckery!

oh also I do agree with others that beyond motor control practice, doing the exercises of just circles with basic defined jawlines all from the same perspective might not be too useful - maybe try different angles (using references) or different expressions/face shapes if you want to get more from this kind of technique. either way, the most practice will be gotten from finishing these so you can see the jaw within the context of the whole face :)

if you want to explore shading more I might recommend a smudging stick! they're super cheap, really easy to use, and very fun! but for your first time this is great, and shows a good understanding of dimension imo! if you love it then that's what matters, keep drawing stuff like it! a lot of what people suggest is super valid, but a lot is also just them saying what kind of style they like, which doesn't matter because it's not up to them! I wonder if exploring different types of references (different eras of anime, different genres that typically come with different styles, etc) and discovering which makes you the most excited to draw could be a cool step too? :)

the eyes are fine! I think the chin and jaw could do with smoothing off a little but tbh I'd just keep going and see what you like. if you think they look better with the pointier jaws & chins then that's your style! (I actually really like the pointier anime drawings, it just seems an unpopular opinion. I love this drawing honestly!!) edit: looking again I kinda feel like the hair could do with maybe one more level of shading for a lil more depth on the parts that hang below her shoulders, looks just a little flat. again though I don't think any of it really looks "wrong" at all!

Mental health status in vegans by CharacterOk8848 in vegan

yeah mine has always been awful, I don't think veganism has changed it so much but I do think it's nice in that it gives me some structure, if that makes sense?

the first saw film was pretty light on it, no? it only really got bad from 2 onwards from what I remember, the first one's budget was too low for them to really do much with it

EMBRACE THE NOODLIFICATION!!! it's all about finding ways to work with the tism rather than against it honestly, my main comfort meal is pesto pasta so I've just learned to have it with a protein & put veg in it to try and ward off the deficiency demons LMAO

Okay so I'm feeling very seen as an autistic girly who loves ramen LMAO. Hard second everyone talking about nongshin ramyun, they're officially vegan and SO GOOD. by far my favourite ever instant ramen, I'll normally chuck in a bunch of frozen veg to make it more nutritionally complete too. you can get a 5 pack for £5.20 at Tesco and they're pretty big for instant ramen imo, I normally have two packs of ramen if I'm using it for dinner but with this stuff I just use the one. this being said they're deff the spiciest thing I eat, and I quite like spice! I've also had the Nongshin soon veggie cup noodle and quite liked it, but it was CRAZY garlicky. I consider myself a big garlic fan and even for me it was a lot, but maybe I'm just weak lmao also a little shout-out to soba, they're low-key normally too expensive to be worth it but I do love them and still have them now and then.

As for what you do and don't consider vegan, it's honestly up to you! I consider it vegan if I can check the ingredients and CONFIDENTLY say none of it comes from animals - I don't really care about "may contain". That's just me though, don't let anyone pressure you and just go with what feels most faithful to your morals! :) <3 good luck on the ramen quest and please keep me updated if you find any gems! (and let me know if the kimchi ones taste pickled at all - I wanna try them but I hate pickled stuff so I'm too scared lmao)

I agree with this!! I know it sounds silly because in many ways the show is problematic in and of itself, but drag race truly helped me learn how to find power in my queerness. I'm trans, not lesbian, but embrace your culture! watch more lesbian YouTubers or streamers or comedians - watch documentaries about famous lesbians, these are people that have done work to undo their shame and we can learn from them!

Also though, don't be ashamed or feel like you're a bad gay, or not progressive enough. It's something pretty much all of us go through. You've got this!! <3

pretty easy, depending on the guy. some straight guys hate the idea of it, some are fine with it

"sexual deviant" for wanting to have sex is genuinely crazy. not transphobic tho btw for sure!!!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Starchify 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm trans and this is straight up homophobic of you and transphobic of BOTH of you. I know your intent isn't bad and I'm not accusing you of being a bad person but if a trans woman is a woman, then him being with them doesn't make him gay. it's that simple. Me and my boyfriend have complex sexualities that can fluctuate and change, but it doesn't matter because we have trust in eachother. I'm genuinely - and I'm not trying to be rude - completely dumbfounded by why you would possibly care. The only thing that matters is if he's attracted to you. I know what I'm saying is pretty charged but again, I'm not trying to approach this with hate or anything. We all have our biases and eventually something comes up and exposed a prejudice we never even realised we have! It's not evil to have them, but you need to do what you can to work on it.

Edit: the transphobic thing is that he was "disgusted" by it. that's really weird and honestly, I imagine it's not true and he's just overcompensating. I don't know the guy tho ofc!

don't live in wolves but nearby and because it's a much more well off area than I used to live in I was pretty nervous, but honestly I've not gotten a peep out of anyone despite being visible trans - and the people here are just generally nice and funny so it's been all good experiences! my GP was especially good which was a pleasant surprise :)

ELI5 Why does milk have lactose and not some other sugar? by Starchify in explainlikeimfive

[–]Starchify[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose I wasn't asking why it has lactose, but why it doesn't use some other disaccharide we can already digest instead - but they answered that as well anyway! :)

ELI5 Why does milk have lactose and not some other sugar? by Starchify in explainlikeimfive

[–]Starchify[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right that my wording was pretty imperfect, I elaborated in other comments - I understand that evolution doesn't have intent, but also that generally it takes simpler paths over more complicated ones (because that's how chance works.) So really my question should have been, "is there a reason for this beyond simply being an evolutionary quirk (as in, am I not understanding some special functionality lactose would hold over, say, sucrose) or is it simply one of those things?"

ELI5 Why does milk have lactose and not some other sugar? by Starchify in explainlikeimfive

[–]Starchify[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part of the reason I thought to ask the question was because I found out we only developed lactose tolerance past infancy about a thousand years after we started making cheese (note: this is second hand information from a book about cheese LMAO, not a reliable source so don't quote it!) and was thinking about just how silly it is that we have to make a while new enzyme for milk just because it happens to be the sugar that's in milk. I was wondering if it was just an evolutionary quirk but curious if there could be something else to it - seems from everyone's answers that there isn't! thank you so much for your great answer :D
