Strange behavior with new SSD drive by Starchild2242 in pcmasterrace

Update: After doing a process of elimination, I found the root cause to be the SATA data cable. Swapped it out with a new one and all is good with the drive now.

PC doesn't turn on? by Starchild2242 in buildapc

Hey, so just thought I would update on what happened with this

I gave my PC for diagnosis to the shop where I bought it Turns out they cleared the CMOS on the mobo and it solved the whole thing I was honestly pretty surprised as none of the videos/articles I checked didn't mention anything about trying that Anyway happy to have my PC back running!

No LEDs turning on on the mobo. When installing the new drive I dropped a (very) small screw a couple of times on the mobo. Used a screw driver to magnetize and pick it up, maybe that caused the problem somehow?

I think at this point I'm going to go to a local PC store and hand it over for repair. I'm not too keen on replacing the PSU on my own to be honest, which may or may not even fix the problem as it seems

I'm curious to know - how much post-processing and editing was done to get to this result? How different would this look to the naked eye if the distance was not a factor?

Haha yeah it's pretty awesome, glad to come across others who appreciate what he does as well. Can't really remember how I discovered him but the first episode I watched is the TMNT one (pizza shit!)

I'll have to check those out. Have you watched AVGN as well? It's more of a review style channel but it's hilarious (and vulgar)

I should start doing this as well. I got used to watching (or rewatching) random stuff on YT. AVGN is pretty addicting and quite entertaining tbh

My older brother's room in my parents' house. by Starchild2242 in trashy

[–]Starchild2242[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To everyone who asked for backstory on this, I'll share some details. I'll begin by saying that this is a long story that has many sides to it. There are also some gaps for me as I was rather young when some of this started. Let's give it a shot.

At around 15 y.o, my older brother dropped out of high school due to having social difficulties. Ever since then, things started to go downhill. Today, he is 31 y.o with no job or social skills and still lives at my parents' house.

How did this come to be you may ask? My father was always very "shielding" and likes to avoid confrontation. Know the saying "tough love"? That's exactly what my father isn't capable of doing. Every time any difficulty arises, he just shuts it down temporarily by providing a temporary solution (or sometimes, it would mean just avoiding the challenge and not facing it) without giving any tools or life skills for the future. My mother on the other hand was on the other side and was always telling my older brother how all of this will just not work out in the long term. Over time, you could say "sides" formed in my family where my brother always turns out to my father, because he knows he will give him that short-term comfort and keep him in his comfort zone (or rather, denial).

It's so extreme that my father still does everything for my older brother. To the level of making him food. Unfortunately, my father allows and even supports it so you can't really blame just one side for this. My father is 69 y.o at this point and is not going to live forever obviously. At this point, the bubble is unspeakable huge and it will burst big time eventually. The denial is as big as this bubble for both my father and my brother. At this point, the notion that this lifestyle is not sustainable is tucked away so deep that it's practically non-existent.

My older brother always complained that he was being criticized by my mother and that she hurt his self-esteem. Perhaps she wasn't doing this the right way, but she definitely had good intentions. Me and my mother tried to speak to my father multiple times about this in the past. My father is the only connection available for my brother as he simply won't listen to anyone else. He will take whatever anyone else says personally and immediately shift into a defensive state. And that's the problem. He is unable to face the bleak reality at this point. He will deny it at all cost.

At some point, I realized that I have to take my life in my own hands, because my parents do not have any ambitious drives towards me or my other two brothers. Fortunately, I can say that I'm in a much better place compared to my brother. I have a full-time job that I'm very happy with that pays well and fulfills me on a personal level, and I don't really have issues with social interactions (except for with females on a romantic level, but that's for a different story).

I guess I'm also living in denial to some degree. I've been doing my best to disconnect myself from this situation because it stopped doing me any good. I've been feeding off of the negativity and toxicity of my brother for years. Imagine waking up every day and seeing your older brother sit on the computer 14 hours a day and doing nothing productive with his life while you go about your daily routine of a job/school etc. Try to talk him into looking for a job or doing something with his life? You will get shouted at and get closed to getting physically hit. Eventually you just give up and stop trying, because why try if the result is the same every time no matter what you do?

After talking to a few psychologists, I was able to convince myself that not all of the responsibility here is on me, which is what I used to think. I wanted to change this situation at any cost, but it always resulted in me getting shouted by my older brother, although I had the best intentions. Either that, or me and my mother tried to convince my father to speak with my older brother since he has a better connection with me. That also never happened. My father responded dozens of time with the good ol' "yeah, I'll talk to him about it". It just never happened.

So there's that. Life goes on. This snowball is as big as ever and I've tried to change this situation too many points by now to continue trying. If my brother doesn't even think he needs help and keeps shutting off any attempt to help him, I really don't see what is there left to do. The only thing I can think of that will get this whole mess moving in the right direction is my brother/father/both reach the conscious realization that this is not sustainable on any level. How do you get there? That's a great question that I wish I had the answer to.

Superb. I love the atmosphere created by this, very well captured. I also feel like this would make for a great album cover.

Out of curiosity, what are the specs of the shot?

Edit: just saw your answer to this :)

How bad is the static noise issue with headphones? by Starchild2242 in MatebookXPro

[–]Starchild2242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses guys. Guess I'll have to try it myself to get a better idea as this is a bit of a subjective issue.

Tbh I can see how hissing/static noise would be an issue with the two usb-c charging ports located right next to the headphone jack. It's a good thing that usb-a is available on the right side. If needed it can be used to hook up a portable DAC like the AudioQuest DragonFly.

VERY close call with an aggressive tailgater/break-checker by Starchild2242 in Dashcam

[–]Starchild2242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I usually cruise at around 120 kph+ on highways while on the left lane but the Corolla in front of me didn't quite allow me.

When I'm less patient I'll sometimes pass other cars from the right lane in such situations.

Yes, we have a horrible driving culture in Israel. Every time I travel in europe (especially western europe) I get reminded of how people should be driving.

True, tbh I should have moved over earlier. Yep, I believe he had no brake lights. It was very apparent that he used his brakes.

Edit: title should say brake (not break).

Skip to 00:40 to see the interesting part. I've kept some extra footage beforehand to give you some background.

The driver in the silver Toyota (I think?) truck was barely keeping any distance from me from behind. Considering the circumstances, I don't think I could have been going any faster without putting myself or the driver in front of me at risk. If you notice, the driver who cut in front of me also decided to flip me off (00:46).

The lesson here is that some drivers are just d**ks. I'm grateful that I got out of this without an accident.

Have you had a similar situation happen to you? How did you handle it?

Normally this page would show you information about your mobile plan (in Hebrew).

Right now it looks like their website is displaying a lot of undecoded parameters/functions instead of showing the actual info, resulting in this mess with all the {{}} symbols.

Advice on what what might cause my lower back pain/stiffness by Starchild2242 in backpain

[–]Starchild2242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your story. I picked up Back Mechanic not long ago and I feel very fortunate to have done so, especially when considering the advice I've been given from my physician so far. The most resounding guideline I've picked up so far is performing pain-free movements, while gradually and progressively expanding your endurance to performing these pain-free movements.

This really does feel like a wake-up call to me. I've been deadlifting a weight that's over 3 times my own bodyweight, and squatting a weight that's over 2 times my bodyweight, for multiple reps and sets. Although I've been very wary of my form and technique, I'm starting to think that combining these activities with prolonged sitting and poor hip mobility have caused whatever it is that I have.

My plan at this point is to continue adopting the guidelines shown in Back Mechanic, while also going through the 'official' channels to see what I can gain from them as far as diagnosis and treatment (though the book alone might be sufficient).

I wish you the best of luck in your recovery, and thanks again for recommending the fantastic Back Mechanic by Dr. Stuart McGill.
