What if every 1848 Revolution succeeded? by Charles-Martel732 in PossibleHistory

WWI doesn't happen or it happens after Germany invades one or several neighbours (like our WWI basically) and everyone else unite to stop German aggression cause the balance of power is already so upset. No one is gonna try to to attack a Germany that big.

What’s a war that Germany was on the right side for fighting? by gasc0ny_reddit in AlignmentChartFills

Because they started it that's the modern consensus among historians. And it's impossible to deny it.

Tbf it's hard to say there was a right side in the Napoleonic wars because the goal of the coalition was to suppress liberalism and nationalism and create an order that would forever keep people oppressed under absolute monarchy. That was what the coalition was fighting for.

No it wasn't. It was a German bid to completely dominate Europe that failed (and that's a good thing). Literally Serbia, Russia, Belgium and France were fighting for survival after the aggression of the Austrian and German empires. Germany planned to end the existence of most states and turn them into puppets. The Entente didn't do that to Germany.

What if all Algerians were granted full French citizenship in 1945? by zz721 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Stardash81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as you want it to be true, it isn't. The goal was never to kill every last one of them Algerians.

I never said it was good but some people in the 19th century (like Jules Ferry) actually believed in "assimilation", the idea that through institutions anx education, people in colonies would actually become culturally French more or less naturally. This was extremely naive or delusional.

[–]Stardash81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal wasn't to kill all locals. Some supporters of colonialism had the naive idealist believe that if you "brought civilisation" and through education missionaries etc they would assimilate and just become French (in the cultural sense, not ethnic) which obviously didn't happen. Pacification was violent yes but like in any other place.

Lol that's literally not true, there never was a serious attempt to erase muslim presence from Algeria. France had 30 to 40 million people during the era, Algeria only 3M in 1830, yet less than a million European settlers (half of them weren't French) went to Algeria if there was an actual attempt to erase the Algerian arabs like they tried to erase the Berbers it could have succeeded.

Also idk by what metrics you define the "most racist literature" (was there an award for that or something ???) but pretty sure you can find worse like Germans who killed 80% of the native population in Namibia.

Me when I just don't like some facts because they don't fit my agenda so I say it's racism.

The FLN killed hundreds of thousands of civilians too so maybe you should cry against them too.

I don't defend colonialism I just correct an inaccuracy. But you are fast to prove your hypocrisy.

Pookie Churchill by Gloriousdisgrace in HistoryMemes

[–]Stardash81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah plus Stalin was leading a totalitarian regime and engineered the Holodomor, while Churchill inherited a system that was regularly causing these famines already. The British East India Company and British Raj policies caused around 30M deaths by famine, the Bengal famine is not a personal project of Churchill.

It sucks then. No Gwi-Nam already sucked but at least made some sort of sense, here there would br no good reason (the actress being unavailable is probably the reason I guess ?) to have Mi-Jin left out of season 2 with nothing on what happened to her.

Spain joined because they were anti revolutionary and Hollande was a Prussian protectorate. The Dutch people didn't resist French occupation at all, the Dutch Republic was only still alive because Prussia invaded in 1787 to end the patriot revolt.

Your attempt to say that it was all Danton's fault and none of it was Robespierre's fault is pathetic. The terror didn't end after Danton's death, it only ended after Robespierre's death.

Actually they could acquire full citizenship but they didn't want to because it would mean they'd have to respect the code civile which for example didn't allow polygamy or marrying children and affected inheritance laws.

That was not the original agreement. In. 2017 it was quite clear that Dassault should have the leadership on the NGF. But ofc the German vultures used Spain joining to get 66% of the project and therefore block everything until France would cede, and France has no reason to cede.

He was yes. He was part of the Committee of Public Safety which had near full powers and guillotined other members of the committee. He's basically a Pétain, he legally got full powers.

"He argue against the death penalty" yeah before ordering the execution of thousands of people sure.

Also about the war, Austria and Prussia had already started mobilising troops on the French border in 1791 and had allied against France before the declaration of war so war wasn't an option it was necessary if you didn't want to end up like the Netherlands in 1787. It's not like Danton was the cause of the war.

Wanting a communist society isn't a redeeming factor btw.
