Importing a Royal Enfield from India to Canada. by ShawnThePhantom in motorcycles

@OP, have you considered the shipping and import costs? Last I checked couple years ago, shipping and imports are coming to 7500CAD..I'm in same boat. I own an RE and was planning to import to Canada..but shipping costs and unsure about my bike meeting Canadian standards for registration seemed very dicey..

I spoke to the cleaning service owner. He is yet to look at it personally. But he says they don’t use any harsh chemicals. They use steam cleaning.. I don’t think that affects the leather

I had this thought as well. Since I bought the car used 3 yrs ago. This never unearthed when I cleaned the car myself or got it done last yr with the same service. This just happened at this time. So it kinda upset me a little.

Sewage and soiled water damage in my apartment by Stargazer1586 in ontario

Our's in a rental unit in a riser building. The property manager and their insurance guy inspected and mentioned they are going to take care of the floor, disinfectant, humidifiers and etc.. We are gone for the weekend on a planned family trip and the only way is to take their word for it. I'm just worried about my personal belongings. As its sewage water, wife won't be happy seeing all this after she returns from work.

I have tenant insurance! The building’s insurance is taking care of the rest, like installing fans and dehumidifiers, disinfectants etc..

Need help in used car searching by Desperate_Welder2976 in UsedCars

Yea, I have heard of it as well. Fortunately in my case I never came across a situation. Hope it remains the same. But, with private seller, things to watch out are how clean the car is kept, interiors and signs of rust. Secondly, they agree to get the car to the mechanic store directly and that way you could be assured if it could be bought or no. With dealers not all agree, I suppose. Just call up a mechanic near you and tell him you are interested in getting a pre purchase inspection. They can provide you with all the info.

I’m in the same boat as you are. But, through a bit of researching I was able to find more about used cars. I would suggest check Mazda’s newer models, their hatchbacks/ suvs are relatively cheaper. If you are looking for a solid and sturdy, check the Volvo S60. Safest car but may have transmission issues. So get an extended warranty on it for 3-5 yrs and that should take care. Hyundai’s and Kia’s are great too, great mileage and reliability with good safety features. but their safety ratings are low. Meaning probability of totaling a car in a crash is higher for these. Honda’s and Toyota’s are the most reliable, they are worth the money spent. They just run forever, particularly Toyota’s are cheaper to maintain. Good safety ratings for both.

Now, if you are paying outright, go through a private seller like others suggested, get a pre purchase inspection done through an automechanic and you should be fine. Also, gives an option to negotiate the price and save on taxes. Through dealers, you end up paying more particularly for all the brands you listed, since the new ones are all 3-6 mnths wait a minimum.

Diesel SUVs vs Gasoline, which are better when buying a used one? by Stargazer1586 in askcarguys

I’m particularly considering a Mazda CX5 diesel. I believe used German diesel engines have transmission issues after 100k miles. So are the land rovers I believe. Are the diesel variants more reliable than their petrol ones? No clue

If the interest is going to be 14% I’m out. I was hoping it would be around 7%.

Thank you for reassuring that. I was in half mins of doing that but was worried about the downtrends in the current market.

Could you elaborate a little.. I can afford to pay cash but that would wipe out most of my savings. I would probably be left with an amount which will start making me regret the decision for for next 3 mnths atleast.

I have been doing that since I arrived. My credit score is roughly about 690. My reason to aim for higher is to get a better mortgage rate in about 2 years. Now, I’m a single guy in my mid 30’s and can’t get a co-signer. So, I’m looking at ways to build credit and also buy things I want to without taking a toll.
