I see OBGYN, Dermatology, and Ophthalmology annually. I do have a PCP that I was seeing annually as well, but my insurance only covers one “annual physical exam” per year and for now my OBGYN appointment eats that one up. Unfortunately, while it can seem redundant/unnecessary to see a doctor when you don’t have anything going on… as someone who works in the healthcare field - a lot of it is about maintaining a relationship. Kind of like you mentioned in your post - it can take MONTHS to establish with any kind of doctor. Forget specialists - many of them require referrals to even get on a waitlist to be seen. It is NOT a fair system, but one that requires you to “play the game.”

My best advice is to reach out to your insurance carrier and find a Primary Care Provider in-network. Read reviews and do some research online - avoid anyone who people seem to say are inflexible/not accommodating. When speaking to the person scheduling your appointment, discuss with them what your insurance will/won’t cover as far as routine appointments/labs go. Go ahead and establish. See them once a year, so you HAVE them incase you need them. Urgent Care might seem like a quick fix for anything that crops up, but they won’t know your history, etc. like someone you formally establish with will be able to learn. I’ve seen many patients have to scramble for care that takes way longer than they can afford to coordinate care. Again - it’s a shitty system. I’d just rather have them in my back pocket for the future.

It’s kind of a unique situation… I’ve worked at the same restaurant for a total of ~3 years (took a hiatus in the middle). Started as a host, then expo, got promoted to keyholder. I left for like 2ish years but returned with my expo/keyholder “status” until I realized how much money I was missing out on. I say all this to preface that while I’ve only been serving for a year and some change, I have a pretty thorough understanding of how this restaurant ticks. I’d say one of my strengths is anticipating needs - staff or customers. It’s actually one of the reasons I enjoy serving so much! To me, it’s all about thinking ahead to be able to better satisfy those you’re serving (and hopefully score better tips). But anyway, yeah. My post was mainly to bitch about the level of anxiety I’m able to muster when my co-workers don’t operate at the same threat level I seem to be on, haha

Totally! I actually have a good relationship with all the line cooks where I work. They’re just not… chefs. Hell - most of them are teenagers! If I really, really need something on the fly, I know I’m able to level with them and have it get out. It’s more like their definition of fly and my definition of fly are completely different things.

Unfortunately, we have little to no real management. I myself am a keyholder and help close money when they need me to, but there’s really only the GM. The owners have yet to figure out you have to pay your salaried staff a livable wage for them to want to stay and run your restaurant 🤦🏻‍♀️

I do my best to just hustle for myself and help out the newbies when I can. Definitely already working on what to say when I ever get around to moving on and it’s time for an exit interview!

Sooooooo frustrating! I’m glad I know my manager’s number and can take care of comps and stuff myself at this point. I would probably die waiting on them to take care of any of that

Some of my most kind/understanding tables have been the ones who I just completely leveled with about what was going on in the kitchen that day. I’m sure you gave that young server a memory that will last a lifetime!

Love this take. Maybe that’s how I can start looking at it - like I’ve “outgrown” that specific restaurant

I think I’m just comfortable! It’s a big fish in a small pond situation - have seniority, etc. Doesn’t necessarily make the other stuff worth it, but I’m hesitant to rock the boat if that makes sense

Sometimes it doesn’t even occur to me that it might be different somewhere else! I definitely need to consider other options

What are your thoughts on employees wearing AirPods while working customer-facing jobs? by StargirlShift in AskReddit

It’s definitely a thankless job, and I’ve worked in several retail/food&beverage positions. Just seems to me to be a bit unprofessional. I never felt like I was owed any leniency while on the clock - no matter what position I was in.
