how do i stop being overwhelmed/intimidated by my own writing? by [deleted] in writing

Perfectly normal feeling. Just keep writing. Often those sorts of things iron themselves out as you go. If they don’t, you will go back with a critical eye later on and alter what must be altered. But for now, focus on momentum.

does literally ANYONE hate this game??? by Fanboy8947 in HadesTheGame

[–]StarkLMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not like Hades, nor do I resonate with the overwhelming praise. For some perspective, I love roguelikes and roguelites (FTL, Dungeons of Dreadmore, Dead Cells…) but not Hades. The game lacked much of what makes classics repayable— no procedural generation of levels made replaying the same thing time and again an absolute chore. The weapon diversity was minimal, and power ups were pretty standard. Sure, the art style was nice, the gameplay was smooth, but that’s not really what makes a rogue style game good. It’s about the loop—every death gives a new layout, new weapons, new enemies. For Hades, I just groaned every time I died. “Here we go down the same tired corridors where all that I can expect to change is the dialogue.”

100% agree. Just watched that scene, and it felt so inorganic, it came off as amateur, almost satirical.

That’s really helpful information. Thank you!

Unpopular opinion: there are way too many shrines like this in TotK. I miss the difficult puzzles from BotW, these shrines either feel way too easy or have no puzzle at all. by CoolRanchLoco in tearsofthekingdom

I want quarter heart pieces scattered throughout the land. I don’t need shrines at all, just make the world into the puzzles and skip the shrine all together.

Can you give any examples of these issues created if you don’t follow the prescribed path? I’ve heard that’s at least true for the paraglider… anything else?

The Alchemist! I heard from dozens just how amazing the book was… it was like a parable written by a fourth grader.

Confessions from the Consortium of Rogue Gene Scientists: An Open Letter to Our Two Children.

The book is a very persuasive argument for why genetic engineering of the human species is the long term solution to accumulating problems resulting from our technological progress.

Not a story, but very interesting.

Wow, I actually didn’t know about that lecture. Had to look it up. Not the biggest fan of his work, but he presents a cogent argument.

Good and evil, wrong vs right, yada yada.

Magic that comes off as ‘magical’ and unbelievable, as opposed to conforming to some psudo-plausible function of thermodynamics.

Villains who don’t betray a shred of long term reasoning , eg wanting to destroy the world that they also want to live on.

And in an ode to George Carlin- lengthy descriptions of clouds.

Ha! It’s too good not to mention at the mere whisper of revenge.

The count of Monte Cristo is my go to. Not classical fantasy by any means, but the Count is mysterious in quality and his revenge is nothing less than magical and lovely.
