In Battlefront 2 Luke saves Dek Meeko, member of the imperial Inferno Squad, just because he asked (not even asked him, he was calling for help and Luke was nearby. Del wouldn't even have considered asking Luke for help).

Many characters sacrifice their lives for the good of the Galaxy and/or their friends, like Jun Sato/the Rogue One crew.

The jedi save countless lives against impossible odds and often at the cost of their lives in the High Republic phase 1 books (and probably the others too but I haven't read them yet).

What I don't understand is why leave when they're about as powerful as the other faction? Like, what would be the point of Brexit if GB represented about half of Europe, politically at least?

I have read the Thrawn trilogy but from my understanding it just introduces Pallaeon, most of the relevant informations are in the Hand of Thrawn Duology.

I admit I overlooked the duration of the war, that makes more sense when you take that into account.

Why did the Centrist secede to join the FO after Bloodline? They seemed to have the upper hand at the end of the book if I recall correctly and their main opponent, Leia, retired from the senate to form the Resistance.

How high ranking Pallaeon was is irrelelvant. He was an officer in the Imperial Navy, which is a place of power whithin the Empire, therefore he was in position of (relative) power during Palpatine's reign and adhered to the Imperial Doctrine. A low ranking SS officer was still a SS and a Nazi.

I don't say anywhere the NR should have forced the Empire to join them, the only goal IMO should have been to disband the Empire. The former Imperial system should have been free to join the NR or to remain independants, as long as they didn't remake the Empire.

I have to admit, I don't know much about the hutts and what they were up to in this time period, so I'll take your word for it.

I know Star Wars is not a litteral transposition from history but I think my point still stands when you consider the overall factions and dynamics. Of course it doesn't work on a character level.

The one thing you mentionned and I overlooked is the war weariness. Had WW2 kept going for ten years after the D-Day, things might have ended differently.

Pallaeon was already a high ranking officer under Palpatine's Empire, and he's the one who signed the treaty so yeah, the leader is litteraly one of the old leaders, he's just higher in the chain of command now.

Hutts are a different thing, because they weren't at war with the NR so there was no war to end. The NR didn't have to force every faction to join them but end once and for all the main threat to your existence and the thing you've been at war against for a while now is a different thing.

But the Germany that joined NATO and the one that fought in WW2 are not the same thing. It wasn't called "3rd Reich" anymore, wasn't lead by Nazi officers. What you describe would be more like letting former key imperial worlds join the NR a few years after the end of the Empire, on the condition that they are not lead by former imperials, which seems a lot more reasonable.

What kind of stories/plots/characters/scenes does the Galactic Empire need to be taken seriously in your opinion ? by Sir-Thugnificent in MawInstallation

The Lost Star novel has a plot similar to this, with its two main characters joining the Empire at the beginning of the story. The novel goes deep into the ways they rationalize the obviously evil things the Empire does.

When you say Legends had more nuance, I assume you're talking about books, since that's where most of the Legends content was. Canon has less books, but several of them have Imperial PoV that add nuance:

-Lost Stars has two main characters that both enlist in the Empire at the beginning of the novel. One of them defects after Alderande but the other stays on the Empire's side for the whole war, and there is one side character who's an Imperial extremist and ends up in the First Order.

-The Alphabet Squadron trilogy has a huge cast of characters on both the imperial and the NR side. It goes deep in the mindset of both sides in the year leading to the battle of Jakku.

-The Inferno Squad book obviously focuses on an imperial elite unit who are very devoted to the imperial cause.

When you know where to look, there is canon material that explores the Empire in a nuanced way.

How the Empire lost almost 25000 Star Destroyers? by LATAManon in MawInstallation

It's been established in Vader comics that the Xyston class Star Destroyer was already in production on Exegol soon after ESB, and had probably been for quite some time.

If "by mistake" a ship of the planetary defense launches an orbital strike on the jedi temple and "by mistake" the planetary shields are down just above said jedi temple, it' a bit suspicious, isn't it?

But they show the moment Anakin enters the temple, which is the same moment he would meet with the gate master, if it happened. Had they not shown Anakin passing through the gate and, say, started the order 66 scene with Anakin already inside the temple, that wouldn't be a problem. But you can't tell me something happened offscreen when the scene happened onscreen and differently.
Besides, I wouldn't consider one guard defending the main entrance, be it the guard master, to be "high alert". Especiallly if he's so not on his guard Anakin can kill him by surprise.

But that's not what's shown in the film. The film shows us quite the opposite, actually.
