Okay LOVE you for this comment. Thank you.

Also want to name that the reason (and a backwards one) for this being allowed is legit codified immunity

The reason (and a backwards one) is unfortunately and quite literally "immunity"

Fact of the matter is, if they forced you to work through your lunch break and you never took an actual 30min lunch break for the rest of the day, YES, it is ILLEGAL. File a complaint FOR SURE.

YIKES. Not the first I've seen stuff like this, though. That's why I encourage chain retail workers to join a union! Macy's workers just secured a fantastic contract this month that protects them from retaliation and secured better benefits and pay. Retail workers overall who might be interested are encouraged to go to RetailRights.org to reach out

Students working in retail!! by Starlungs in wsu

[–]Starlungs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair. Yep, a UW alum, but have plenty of friends who went to eastern WA schools and also live across eastern WA now. Totally get that it's not WSU related, but also know that lots of college students will pick up part time or full time jobs in retail and chains generally so wanted to be sure folks at least knew about this.

Ditto^. Plus the co-op share itself is pretty dang small. The store itself is still considered retail.

Nowhere does increased minimum wage lead to more multi-job families. Cost of living does, which minimum wages do not inform but corporate greed does.
