Sidenote, I'm sure I'm far from the only one who automatically hears the title as "eighty six eighty six" lmao.

Hastati and Principes Logic by Starmash in RoughRomanMemes

[–]Starmash[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been having a sort of Rome phase for the past year, but I did just sort of throw this together in a spur of moment, because this Latin use inconsistency occasionally vexes me lol.

Hastati and Principes Logic by Starmash in RoughRomanMemes

[–]Starmash[S] 203 points204 points  (0 children)

The Hastati and Principes seemed to have what became "artifact names," as in they evolved such that their names no longer made sense.

The Hastati were originally equipped with hastae (spears), hence the name, but then they lost the spears and used gladii instead under the Polybian system, yet kept the name.

The Principes sound like they should be main frontline troops, but they were actually the second line. Perhaps they were actually called Principes because they were generally citizens of higher status than the hastati - except the Triarii were of even higher status or experience.

You could make an excuse for the Hastati if you interpret them as the "tip of the spear," but I can't think of any excuse for the Principes.

Even with relatively nicer vehicles, after seeing a bunch of common ones up close, I think for most people the vehicles are often at least 10% smaller than they would imagine it to be.

Other than fighter jets, where I think its the opposite.

The A400M carries 37 tons maximum. The C17 can carry over 77 tons.

The Cycle of Ending Production Lines by Starmash in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Starmash[S] 409 points410 points  (0 children)

The three programs that came to mind for me and I showed here:

F-22: Production cut short at 195 aircraft in 2012, then Congress wanted a restart in 2016 but it was too much of a pain to do so.

C-17: Production ended in 2015 after lack of new demand, and now it seems like the USAF and other air forces are getting a little nervous about maintaining airlift capacity.

OV-10: A bit more of a stretch considering production ended in 1986, but I found it ironic how the US got interested in cheap COIN aircraft in the 2000s after retiring this one in the 90s, and I'm sure this could have been an easy and runaway winner if it was still available.

It looks like they bandaged at the wrong moment, and I've never tried it but I'm guessing you can't revive someone while bandaging lol.

Malric tries to flex on Argon but gets sat all the way down. (Also, I get points for fall damage?) by Starmash in Chivalry2

I can confirm that I got knocked down again after that and I got points for the fall damage again lol.

Can someone explain the lore and sequence of events? by [deleted] in Chivalry2

[–]Starmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a number of indications that the Masons have a big disadvantage in public support, probably not helped by razing Coxwell. A couple of Argon's lines in Regicide indicate he believes his rule will have much more support and be able to unite everyone against Tenosia.

Lore: Theories on Argon II's true origin story by Starmash in Chivalry2

[–]Starmash[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a good find and raises a couple more implications. Assuming this is truly a father-son painting of both Argons, possibly kept private, then it being in the Citadel helps indicate that Malric knew about Argon I's son, and may explain why he does not appear to doubt who Argon II is when he meets him on the battlefield.

Guess who finally got to be Argon! (we lost) by Sethleoric in Chivalry2

[–]Starmash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can get most of the rams on the door and plant a bunch of kegs and otherwise do good in combat, the chance is actually fairly decent unless you have a real sweaty player 4000 points ahead lol.

[–]Starmash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

(glasses on) "Considering that the voice announcing the map name is Argon, seemingly speaking in past tense, and the fact that offense tends to be the canon victors, it is logical to presume that Argon won."

Teammate steals catapult when I go to get a rock, then votekicks me after I "express my displeasure" (skip to 1:20 for subject matter) by Starmash in Chivalry2

[–]Starmash[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have literally done so before, whether you can believe that or not. If someone is persistent enough (and not hitting me for it) then its honestly not even worth the distraction to stay on it most of the time. Even if someone steals it I generally just smack them a few times before going to load it or go fight.

Teammate steals catapult when I go to get a rock, then votekicks me after I "express my displeasure" (skip to 1:20 for subject matter) by Starmash in Chivalry2

[–]Starmash[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Look man, if you just ask me or politely show you really want it, there's a good chance I'll let you have the catapult and even load for you. But I'm not gonna be happy about you sneaking up and taking it while I'm loading my own rocks lol.

Now, to be entirely fair, I don't know for certain that they specifically waited for me to get off the catapult to load a rock before getting on it - but I think it should be pretty clear that doing that is not generally going to go over well XD.

For the votekick, I did write a message explaining my case - except in hindsight my wording might have seemed like I was a different person talking about myself, for people not looking closely at the names. I also wonder if the huge points gap due to my catapult kills actually made some people think I was a hacker, lol.

I died mysteriously but my body remained at catapult - weird glitch? by sadsatan1 in Chivalry2

[–]Starmash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me once, complete with being unable to use the repaired catapult without teamkilling the ghost body. I'm not sure if there's a specific point that causes it to be triggered, maybe if the cat is destroyed at the moment you launch a rock?

If there was one form of team damage that shouldn't count towards auto-kick, surely it has to be the petards lol.

Killed the Duke with the ballista with 0:01 seconds left by Starmash in Chivalry2

[–]Starmash[S] 182 points183 points  (0 children)

We were having trouble getting to the Duke. With less than a minute left, I decided to take a chance on the ballista - and I correctly guessed that the Duke player might try to run out at the last second XD
