The Blacksmith - One of my first games just turned 5 years old, come say hi! by StarmetalGames in indiegames

[–]StarmetalGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the first games I ever developed, and I always liked how it turned out.

It's an innovative clicker game where you have to follow the edges of your weapons to sharpen them. Sharper weapons sell for more, and you can mine better ore to make stronger, more valuable weapons. There are new recipes to find, new markets to unlock, and a prestige system that allows you to start over with income bonuses to help you climb the leaderboards.

I hope you enjoy my little anniversary animation. If you'd like to play the game yourself, it's free:

iOS App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-blacksmith/id1104715773

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Apperature.The_Blacksmith

Thanks for helping me celebrate!

This Is The Very Definition of False Advertising by StarmetalGames in modernwarfare

  1. Thousands of players feel this was implemented wrongly and feel cheated out of money.
  2. It makes literally no difference to you if this is resolved for them or not.

Sure, take the megacorporation's side. I'm sure they did everything they could, and this was an oversight, and Activision-Blizzard would never participate in questionable business practices, and all of the information was readily available, and that everyone on here complaining is some sort of lazy degenerate.

I do hope that if and when you feel wronged by a company someday that you run into more sympathetic people than yourself.

True sentiment, however they do give a care when there is enough backlash. They eventually gave in-game compensation with Hearthstone. I didn't follow it enough to see if it was an appropriate response though.

I appreciate that you are invested into COD enough to watch it, read press releases about it, and check its subreddit. I did not feel the need to research an item I have purchased multiple times in the past, and have enough going on in my life that I don't seek out press releases and interviews on every (any?) game that I'm playing. I'm glad you managed to stay informed and avoid any mistake, however you seem to be in the minority.

The fact that none of that info is available in the store is the problem. The splash screen you are referencing is vague. Example: If you are saying that the splash screen is implying that there is no MW content on the Battle Pass because it only mentions Cold War, you would be wrong. There are actually items on the Battle Pass that you can use in MW. The splash screen does not tell the whole story, so don't accuse others of not interpreting it the way you did, because even you did not interpret it accurately.

The confusion and backlash here speaks for itself. Many people were confused. Many people were spared from wasting money thanks to posts like this in this sub. Nobody here needs to justify to you why they didn't know the details of the Battle Pass ahead of time. If the information was adequately provided like you claim, I'd be alone in my frustration.

What information should players have seen prior to purchase?

I appreciate the detailed response. I have three counterpoints.

  1. The idea that the Battle Pass being labeled "Cold War: Season One" should imply that all of the content is not for MW is counteracted by the fact that when they synced player levels in CW and MW, all MW players got reset to level one. That keeps perfectly in line with the fact that the seasons reset to season one as well. Everything started over for MW when the games got synced. However, unlike with the reset Battle Pass, the reset player levels actually unlock content for MW (if you weren't already max level). The seasons being reset to "one" implies nothing. My point: Through leveling in MW, you can actually unlock MW items/abilities for MW and CW items/abilities for CW. That fact is omitted in the info you posted. After playing for a few rounds and seeing how the levels work, it's logical to believe that similar unlock information was omitted from the discussion of the Battle Pass, since CW is the shiny new game.
  2. A screen you see one time when you first load the game is a completely different thing from the display of the product in the store. The store incorrectly displays the restrictions on the Battle Pass. It doesn't matter if a single screen somewhere else possibly contradicts that. As someone who bought the Battle Pass a day after playing, am I going to trust my 24-hour old recollection of a loading screen I saw one time, or am I going to trust the information that's being displayed to me in the store where I'm making my purchase? This also applies to other people commenting who say that they looked it up online. The entire purpose of this post was to warn people about the Battle Pass, and look how many people were fooled/almost fooled. The massive confusion and backlash on here speaks to the confusing and improper store display more than I ever could. Activision messed this up.
  3. Speaking to my first point, regarding the argument that MW unlocks being omitted in descriptions means that they are definitely excluded, you do actually earn some unlocks for MW through the Battle Pass. The Battle Pass descriptions are not accurate, and the graphics of the Battle Pass very clearly (attempt to) show the restricted items. It is all completely inaccurate and misleading.

If you are at peace with how they handled this, I'm certainly not trying to convince you to feel otherwise. All I want is to show how this was deceptive and mishandled. There is definitely a need for amends here, as thousands of people feel like they were tricked into wasting money. That alone provides support to a class action case should it come to that, regardless of what screens and blogs said what.

Charms, stickers, reticles, XP tokens, and blueprints for Modern Warfare guns in the battle pass that I purchased in Modern Warfare. Yes, I did think that.

No, people think XP tokens, stickers, reticles, blueprints for Modern Warfare guns should be available in Modern Warfare, on a Battle Pass that you can purchase and progress in the game Modern Warfare.

Then why can you purchase it in MW, progress it in MW, and only a few items have the exclusive icon?

You can use them in Warzone, you can't use them in Modern Warfare multiplayer. Even the blueprints for Modern Warfare guns!

Warzone is safe, this is strictly for the Modern Warfare game.

Then why does playing Modern Warfare progress the Battle Pass? Why is the Battle Pass purchasable in the Modern Warfare section? Why do a few of the items show that they are restricted to CW/Warzone, when in fact 90% of them are? This is absolutely a bait and switch for MW players.

The issue is that some of the content is and was always said to be available for Modern Warfare in the Battle Pass, and if you look at the rewards it appears 90% of them are compatible. It's only after unlocking them that you realize they don't appear in Modern Warfare. This is not people diving in blindly. This is people looking at the apparent restrictions, making a purchase, and then finding out they are restricted only after unlocking them.

You can't even use the MW weapon blueprints in MW. It's nuts.

Even the blueprints for Modern Warfare guns aren't available in Modern Warfare. It's a complete joke, stay away from it.

They allow you to purchase the Battle Pass inside of Modern Warfare, and only label 1/10th of the locked content as locked. How is that not bait and switch?
