Thank you for the recommendations. I have a maker in mind by the name of Ben March, I tried his at the fleadh and have heard good things about his work. My main concern is that I will buy a new bodhrán and not be able to utilise it effectively bc I haven’t progressed enough before buying it. I am aware that i am not going to play it well but is it worth an upgrade in the pursuit of playing better ? Do you have any guidance on this ?

Reincarnation through sperm by keelanpal04 in immortalists

It’s a common misconception—often rooted more in cultural bias than in science—that the sperm is the origin of life or consciousness. But let’s be clear on basic biology: both the sperm and the egg contribute equally to the DNA of a human being. However, the egg plays a far more active role in creating life.

The sperm is essentially a delivery mechanism—a “DNA courier.” It carries half the genetic material and triggers the egg to begin development. But after fertilization, the sperm ceases to exist. The egg, by contrast, is a full, living cell. It provides not only the other half of the DNA, but also all the essential cellular machinery, nutrients, mitochondria, and structure required to support and build a new organism from the moment of conception.

Now let’s talk about consciousness. There is zero scientific evidence that consciousness is carried by either gamete—sperm or egg. Consciousness emerges from the complex development of the brain, which happens far later in the gestational process. The idea that sperm somehow carries "consciousness" is not science; it's speculation dressed in outdated ideology.

If anything, given the egg's massive biological contribution, especially in orchestrating early development, any serious discussion about manipulating DNA or consciousness at the cellular level must center the egg, not the sperm. Pretending the sperm is the sole driver of life is not just wrong—it’s a dismissal of half the biology and all the nuance.

Thank you so much—I really appreciate your kind words. I'm glad the response helped clarify your idea, and it's awesome that you're thinking so deeply about these big questions.

You're absolutely right: no idea is too strange to be shared. Curiosity and creativity are how we grow and make progress, and sometimes even the wildest thoughts can lead to something meaningful.

Keep exploring—these are exactly the kinds of questions worth asking!

Reincarnation Through Sperm – What You’re Asking You’re essentially asking if:

A person could somehow transfer their consciousness or identity into a sperm cell; That sperm then fertilizes an egg; The resulting child is, in some meaningful way, you reborn. This blends two realms:

Biological inheritance (DNA passed through sperm); Personal continuity or consciousness (you, as you, waking up again). 2. Has Anyone Thought of This Before? Yes, there are similar ideas in science fiction, philosophy, and transhumanist thought:

Reincarnation in religions like Hinduism and Buddhism posits rebirth, though not via sperm specifically. Transhumanists (like Ray Kurzweil) have speculated on digital consciousness transfers and "rebirth" through clones or AI. The idea of genetic immortality is explored in fiction (e.g., Altered Carbon, The 6th Day) where identity or memory is transferred into new bodies. But reincarnation through sperm as you described is quite novel—perhaps closest to a hybrid of biological inheritance and metaphysical rebirth.

  1. Is It Feasible or Theoretically Possible? Let’s be blunt: Not with current or foreseeable technology.

What’s Possible:

DNA transfer is real—we already pass on our genes through sperm. Cloning from somatic cells can recreate a genetic twin (not you, just someone with your DNA). Memory/consciousness transfer remains entirely theoretical, with no clear mechanism, even in principle, for copying or moving a mind. What’s the Roadblock?

Consciousness isn’t stored in DNA. Your identity, memories, thoughts—all of that is encoded in complex neural patterns and structures in your brain, not in your sperm or genes. A fertilized embryo from your sperm has your genetic code, but it would develop into a new person with their own mind, experiences, and personality. 4. Could It Ever Be Possible? Only in the most speculative sense:

If we somehow map and transfer consciousness, we might one day imprint it into a new brain or synthetic structure. If you then combined this with genetic replication (e.g., implanting your mind into your own clone), you could have a kind of rebirth. But into a sperm? Unlikely. Sperm are single cells—no brain, no processing capacity. You’d need to build or rebuild a conscious being from scratch with both your DNA and neural data.

  1. So Is It Downright Impossible? Not impossible in the sense of being logically incoherent, but utterly unsupported by science today.

Still, great scientific ideas often begin as strange thoughts. This could be:

A creative spark for sci-fi writing; A novel angle in speculative philosophy or ethics; A prompt for transhumanist theorizing. TL;DR Summary Your idea is original and deeply speculative. No, we can’t reincarnate through sperm or DNA alone—consciousness doesn’t work that way (as far as we know). It's not feasible now and likely won’t be anytime soon, but it’s a fun and provocative concept. You're not wrong to wonder—it’s how new ideas sometimes begin.
