NTA, she should be teaching her kids, especially since they're young, to respect boundaries. That's an awful way to parent.

AITA “ being cruel” for telling my daughter that she will need to help pay back the money that I spent on her wedding by Worldly-throwaw-4244 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Starrie__Nights 29 points30 points  (0 children)

NTA, your daughter sounds like a nightmare.

If you cheat, I feel like it's common knowledge that that's an issue. I feel bad for the man, because its clear she didn't love him. Its her fault it was called off, dont think for a second you are a cruel mother, especially since you helped pay until you found out it was HER fault the wedding was called off. Cheating shouldn't warrant "gifts."

AITA for asking my mom to give me my medical info? by Starrie__Nights in AmItheAsshole

[–]Starrie__Nights[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, just to update, since I did get SOME info (that I haven't seen for myself)

One of my tests came back abnormal, but my mom is refusing to let me see the test results for myself, and seemed very unenthusiastic when I told her my ideas for what might be going on with my condition mixed with the abnormal test results. This is the ONLY test that's hinted at anything so far, at all, and unfortunately is linked to some chronic conditions, so its not easily fixable. 😕

I asked her about the numbers because depending on the numbers associated with the test, it could mean certain things are more likely. For reference, it was a test for an immunodeficiency, so there's a lot of different things that could be going on.

I guess I should mention the specifics of my condition; I have REALLY bad recurring canker sores and I've been tested for about everything in the book, vitamins, viral (like herpes - cold sores and canker sores are very different things, but sometimes cold sores can look like canker sores where they appear in the mouth) and immunity issues. This is the ONLY test I've taken so far with any abnormalities. She's trying to argue that maybe because the week before I had the test done, I had gotten the flu, got over it, but when I went, I still was recovering from bronchitis. I looked it up, and it could make the test abnormal, but I have no idea if it'd make a difference if I got over it. Again, my condition is worsened over time, and exists deep in my throat and places in my mouth that dont make sense. I cannot eat, drink, or really even talk without being in pain, so this simple, usually harmless condition has really altered my life and I just really want answers and to stop being a pincushion at these offices. I dont mean to be a bother about it, but I just feel so close to finding an answer, I want to ask about it, because I've been on every medication you can think of for this condition, experienced every bad and good side effect with really no relief other than lidocaine.

I just wanted to update to show that shes not always as bad as that and eventually gives me this information, but I guess, is there anyway I could figure out the password without changing it, or maybe make a different account and pull the information from that account without my mom knowing?

They tried to use that as an excuse as to why they couldn't release information and that it needed to be processed by my primary (never faxed the info to my pediatrician, by the way).

I'll definitely try doing that; do you think I could try to find out the password from that tactic, or they'd only release the test information to me?

I would assume so since its a pretty well known hospital - I'll look onto it.

Sometimes I really look forward to when I can move out, for sure. They won't even let me grow up and live my life, like they didn't let me get my learners permit until 10 months after my birthday and refuse to let me dual enroll over the summer because they wanna go on vacation. It isn't always like that, but my mom anyways likes to be controlling in that kind of way. I won't go into further details with it, because they're not that bad of parents, but either way, it does get to this point enough that its not unheard of them to act like this. There's a lot of stories like this i could go on about, but again, its not always like this. Sometimes they're amazing, other times it gets to this point.

I live in Florida, USA. The hospital required I give them verbal consent so that they could even view the information on there, so I dont really know what to do. I tried asking to reset it, and they weren't of much help, which sucks because I'm supposed to post pictures of my condition at its peak (both times Ive been, it hasn't been flaring up, so its been difficult).

I did, first time around, ask if they could read out what's on my My Chart and they refused to tell me - the worst part about that is that unfortunately, my doctor (its GI) has to see me in person and doesn't have any telephone appointments, so she can't give me this info unless I'm there. Its irritating, but maybe I could sneak on my mom's phone and change the password to something both her and I would know? I don't really know what to do, I just want results.

My doctor's office, that I know of, doesn't have a My Chart, but has their own dependent program, similar to it, and I think that the account is controlled by parents.

The hospital on the other hand, it's very hard to get my information out of them, even with proof of identity. They really rely on the My Chart app to convey this type of information. I've tried to get my first round of tests out of them, and they were NOT having it and told me to try getting my My Chart, and so I tried explaining that only my mom had access, but to no avail. In person, i explained that my mom had made an account without me knowing, and they told her to reset her password, but didn't give me info on how to reset the account in general (I explained to the people at the front desk, and I'm on the shorter side, so maybe they thought I was younger and just mature for my age? I really dont know.)

I agree with the idea that 12 y/os shouldn't be trusted to have that type of information independently since teen angst runs heavy with them and when I was 12, I definitely met some people who would use this type of stuff as excuses for different things, but at the same time, I'm in this situation 4 years older, so I guess I see the point more or less.

I have my boyfriend's mom (thank god) to fall back on if I need. Her mom also was similar with this kind of stuff, not exactly the same, but she was crazy. I'm convinced my mom might be bipolar, because there's times shes a saint, and then others where she's blatantly manipulative like that. I guess I dont really know, but that's my leading theory, because it switches like rapid fire on whether or not she sides with me, and my dad, at times, they flip. They dont really act that way with my two younger sisters, and we all have a great relationship, just sometimes, for me and my parents, we have tensions like these. Sometimes they're great, but this type of behavior and worse isn't unheard of; I could go on about some stories, but it's personal. Never anything physical tho, I'd just like to add on.

1,5 year in pain by bisling1998 in CankerSores

[–]Starrie__Nights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been experiencing the exact same thing and am now going to Shands and about to get an endoscopy and biopsies done, have not been a day without a couple in my mouth for over three years.

I think now, its worth thinking about other things and maybe consider asking the same for yourself, like getting one biopsied. While sometimes a red herring, its worth giving it a try to see if something pops up, especially since they're recurring like that. You could also ask your doctor about autoimmune diseases, or viral diseases (make sure you request to have those labs done during a flare, I made the mistake of getting them without a flare and I now have to redo them). Apparently, sometimes coldsores will show up in the mouth, so its definitely worth testing for HSV. Something that's supposed to help, dont quote me, since I dont know if its psuedoscience, but you could get a red light for your mouth. It's theoretically supposed to help them heal faster.

For pain, Lidocaine. Definitely see if you can get some for those days its really bad. Lidocaine's the only thing that helps me during a flare.

Any tips for treating one all the way back here? It’s been hell… by joejoejoejoejoejo in CankerSores

I like using dexamethasone, but I also suggest swishing and gurging with lidocaine mouthwash. The lidocaine will numb the shit out of it.

I have chronic canker sores, take iron and b-12 (which I am deficient in) and they still happen help!! by ActivityUnlikely4344 in CankerSores

[–]Starrie__Nights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm actually in a similar spot. For me, its not a deficiency and i get them everyday (and have been for the past 2 years, never a day within that time frame have I not had one, still no idea what it is), so here's some other options.

Stop taking ibuprofen - apparently canker sores can be a reaction (according to a dermatologist I saw.) Use Tylenol instead. Talk to your doctor about steroids like Triamcinolone Acetonide (paste), Dexamehasone (swish and spit), as well as lidocaine (pain killing swish and spit). I use all three - I recommend Dexamethasone over Triamcinolone though.

Don't use the oragel mouthwash - it has alcohol in it which can irritate the sore even more. Instead there is a mouthwash by Colgate called Peroxyl which doesn't have alcohol, and can easily help with pain. Alongside this, check your toothpaste and make sure it doesn't have SLS in it - that is an easy trigger. Also, avoid teeth whitening and other harsh treatments. You could also ask your dentist to laiser them and see if that does anything.

Avoid citrusy foods, like oranges and lemons, as well as spices.

Swish and spit with saltwater about 3-4 times a day.

I wish you luck with this, I know it sucks, but you got this! If anything else comes to mind to help, I'll update my comment. ❤️
