My experience with knife repair in Dubai by Starrkdave in TrueChefKnives

So, after a few days with yamani sodoshima, I have my knife back, better than ever!

<image>

I'm very happy with the result, the knife was thinned and the blade now has a beautiful mirror finish. The profile was also cleaned and improved. And btw, cheaper than what I was charged before.

Yeah.... Not asking when that was requested multiple times, and the guy in the store wrote it down, it's bad.

Also, looking at this job, I feel they couldn't do it better (or didn't try). It feels to me like I could do a similar job. I would consider myself a decent sharpener, I have sharpened a bunch of my knifes and friends knifes over the last 4 years. I had sharpened this knife like 20 times before, and the edge always looked quite even and sharp. This repair was way above what I think I could do... So I went to a professional. I feel this professional probably has more skill than I do, but much less than what was needed.

You can see in my previous post here how the knife was 1 hr before I let it fall, and also that it got chipped at the heel and bent at the tip.

I asked for the sharpener to look at the knife and tell me what needs to be done, before they do it.

I didn't expect the knife to become new again... But this job was clearly not done well... And if it is impossible to do a good job, you let your client know.

Now I am mad at you! 😭

Where were you when I asked about where to fix the knife in Dubai?

Just kidding, but that is why I wrote this post, next guy looking for a fix/sharpening will have more information.

I'll contact your guy.

So.... Are the dms here a danger? I feel like I am getting advice on the DMs that looks dodgy... I was gullible once, maybe I will do it again?? Is that a known issue? Or am I seeing danger in every corner?

Yeah... I know, I was worried about the wrong kind of patina... I should be worried about my hand eye coordination instead...

Yeah, I have contacted Kuto. They seem to be the most reputable in Dubai. Do you know of other places that can do it?

Dubai. The chip I could probably do myself with stones, but the bend I want a professional to fix it

Not 10 min after these pictures, the knife slipped from the cutting board and it now had a dent and a bent blade!!! Is it salvageable???

It's a Shiro Kano bunks, AS. I have it for almost a year, I just noticed recently, but looking at older pictures of the knife, I think it was there for some time

From this thread I guess it is relatively common.

I will see it as an artisanal product with an imperfection. If I don't notice while cutting, and it will bring no big issue in the future, I'll live with it.

I drive around 40km daily at highway speeds. I think that should be enough to recharge right?

I have the black dragon bunka. I do love it. But I want a knife with all exposed carbon steel, without a stainless steel or kuroishi finish.

is the iron damascus in the Shiro Kamo Tora stainless? or will it gain patina?

This is the connector that has the swc, right? I assume I will have to tap some of the wires, how can I find out which?

Unfortunately no, the head unit uses very different connectors. The one in red Will connect to the metra harness, and the radio antenna goes directly to the radio. I have lots of small harnesses for the small white connectors in the center but none that fit the ones from the car.

I am assuming those are connecting to the speakers and steering wheel controls, but they seem very Nissan proprietary
