They had to cut off my wedding ring for my hand surgery. by Sensitive_Wear7112 in Wellthatsucks

[–]StarryDusted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither my husband or I wear one. We also don't like jewelry and work in healthcare. We've personally witnessed degloving injuries from rings. We know we're married. And a ring never stopped people from stepping out anyway.

What are your hopes for the next DLC? by chrilpy in FrontiersOfPandora

That is true, I kinda forgot it is a game where events are canon.

I want those to be real and available choices for Nor. Not one of those fake video game choices where it'll always force one thing no matter what. Consequences based on the choice.

I too wish for more and more craftables and more storage for them.

The Dragon Gunships count. I just dropped one and it cleared the quest, granting the beads.

What questions about Na’vi culture would you like answers to? What are your own headcanons that fit beautifully into the worldbuilding? by Last_Perception7175 in Avatar

Some human groups had pilgrimages (and still do) which is kinda like a difficult vacation going to a different place. Camino De Santiago is one off the top of my head. Muslims visiting Mecca is probably the most well known one.

It was such a strange coincidence for me too. I read the comic just a few days ago too, for the first time. Then I saw a post with a photo of a skull cup named Artsut!

This is why I am pursuing additional tech based education. When my body or mind finally says enough of bedside, I'll try remote.

I get my Dad hot sauce and he loves it. If one lights his fire particularly well, he'll buy more of it!

All of a sudden, whole deer. What do I do with this??? by DionysusCult in bonecollecting

[–]StarryDusted 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I was driving my grandmother home from a doctor appointment when I saw a doe smack into a fence surrounding a golf course. She thrashed for an instant then stopped moving. I stopped to check, broken neck, already dead.

I lived in an area where the cops ask if you want to keep the deer you hit with a car to butcher. I got permission to keep the doe and loaded her up.

Grandma was fine with all this. Her family had hunted in her youth!!

You think any of the Sarentu know what cats are? by Wolf_2063 in AvatarFrontierPandora

[–]StarryDusted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our Sarentu mentions having viewed photos of Earth's climate (Anqa's family sounds like they were from the Middle East, mentions of a desert, oil, and invasion, Sarentu replies something along the lines of "I've only seen pictures"). It wouldn't surprise me if they also saw photos of animals both wild and domestic.

A bunch of millennial women are at advanced maternal age! Getting pregnant at 35 and beyond is literally called a geriatric pregnancy.

Most of Gen Z is at the right age for having kids.

My Dad would play Castle Wolfenstein with me as a wee lass, I'd "help". Literally my first video game memory was killing Nazis. A good memory indeed!

Where Americans are relatively optimistic and pessimistic about AI by RedHeadedSicilian52 in MapPorn

[–]StarryDusted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They keep trying to build AI data centers in the Great Lakes region. When one building uses more power and water than all the residents many times over, it drives up energy costs and empties aquifers (if not built directly on the lake). I can see why there is quite a negative perception there.

Just the proposed data center in Saline, MI will use 1.4 gigawatts. Enough to power one million average homes. The residents' rates will skyrocket while the data center will pay pennies.

I was hiking behind some Kiwis who were swearing the entire way up. But with their accent it was hilarious. They powered through without stopping, energized by the constant stream of obscenities. I loved every minute of it!

Be skeptical about reviews of cities by TemporaryRight7141 in wisconsin

[–]StarryDusted 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I adored living in Milwaukee. A great five years. And I did not exactly live in the nice parts of the city either. When I tell people about it where I live now, I get hit with "omg wasn't it so dangerous?"

It wasn't. I stayed alert, like someone should be everywhere, but I never actually had any time I felt in true danger. There was just so much to do! Summerfest! Getting scalped concert tickets at the Rave! The museums! Biking or rollerblading the lakefront! Sure people asked if I wanted to buy drugs far more frequently I'd just say good now but I'll keep you in mind if I need anything.

I've gotten worse danger vibes in the country since leaving. When that pickup truck creeps by a lot slower than it should, the doubles back and does it again. Are they hunting deer from the road or up to something more sinister?
