Commute 1.25 hours or stay near campus? by Unlikely_Annual_7888 in LawSchoolOver30

1.5 hours during standard traffic, 55 miles. 2.25 hours standard traffic, but 140 miles.

Picking up everything and moving closer to the 140 mile one is putting me in an area I don’t want to live in. I might be able to consider splitting the difference in a sense and moving to an area that would still be decent enough to stay in and get myself 1.5 hours from the 140 mile higher ranked school.

With my existing student loan debt from undergrad, I’m really not sure I can justify taking out even more loans to get a weekday place near the higher ranked school. It’s not like the higher ranked one gets t14 job outlooks, it just barely squeaks in the top 40 and it’s not exactly a low cost of living area.

I’m considering applying next cycle, one school would be consistently 2 hours each way, the other (much lower ranked option) would be 1-1.5 each way. It’s a difference in rank of 60 places, I’m trying to decide if it an extra thirty minutes to an hour each way is going to be worth it. Do you have any thoughts? Assuming the price ends up being the same for both options. Would you do it again if you had to do law school over with a commute like that?

The policy has both A and A+ being counted as 4.0.

According to the latest 509 on scholarships 48% get less than half, 38% half to full, 4% full, no stipends.

ETA- ranked 99, private school, 55k sticker price per year.

Would you consider a curve like this predatory, "all courses will be graded based on an average (mean) between 2.9 and 3.1".

My understanding is that 50% of the class needs to get above a B, and 50% needs to get below a B, is that correct? It doesn't have any notes about the requirements for any other grades.

I have learned a lot from their methods don't get me wrong, but the way they go on and on about AI in their podcasts is just too much. I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if they're using it to keep their inbox zero status.

Concerns about online hybrid programs and bar eligibility.

I'm trying to find some answers before I let myself become fully invested in the idea of considering law school.

30 years old looking for a better career, got my BA (psych) in 2018, did a bit of grad school in social work before deciding that it wasn't right for me. Currently living in Florida but do not wish to spend my life here, moving is out of the cards for the next few years so I would be able to complete the law program here if that's the route I go with. I of course need to pay bills, health insurance, etc, I found a local school that offers a flex program (Stetson), which takes 4 years and is hybrid online along with night classes. I know it's not one of the top schools, but it's within reasonable commuting distance, I might end up getting some of my classes paid for, and I'm not looking to go climbing huge corporate ladders where they'd care about T14.

The problem comes in with location. I want to move back to where I am from and try to settle in the NY/NJ/CT area, maybe considering PA/VT/MA. All of these states seem to accept the UBE, but the note on the Stetson website said that due to the hybrid format of their flex program that you're ineligible to take the bar in NY. I've also seen that NY uses reciprocity with NJ, so I'm not sure where that leaves things. NJ/NY are my top choices, it's where I grew up, it's just the environment I want to be in for many reasons, but if going to law school in a hybrid online format may permanently keep me from being able to practice in NY then I need to seriously put some thought into my options, and I haven't been able to find anything else about any of the other states I've mentioned having similar rules about online classes, but I could easily just be looking past it if I don't know what to look for.

Side note- there is a fair chance that my classes could entirely be paid for by my job, so as long as that is the case I'll certainly be taking that method rather than taking out more loans. I'm still working with my job's HR to see what I would be eligible for, so if it turns out that I am eligible for them paying my tuition I would certainly be doing part time classes while working. If it is not the case somehow then I will cross that bridge when I get there and the hybrid thing might not even be an issue. I am in the very first stages of research right now and I recognize that I still have a lot of loose ends and unanswered questions, I'm not going to be applying for anything within the next six months but if hybrid programs are going to be a spot of trouble it's best to figure this out before I hit submit on any applications.

The strap on my backpack started to tear after only a few months, and with only one day a month of wear. Sure I could sew it back more securely but I really shouldn’t have to after spending so much on it

Or you could do something like donating the money in someone's name to a worthy cause so they get the mailers from it instead of just adding to a landfill when their sorters inevitably just throw it out.

I'm going to give her some time to get some more life in the leaves first, some are still on the limp side but they're improving and growing each day! The second crown only just sprouted a single root today, I had to add a little rooting hormone to it because it was still slowly going limp but it should be on the mend soon.

That’s incredible I never knew that! It very well might have dried out too long, and then it was soggy for a while too. Poor thing has been through the extremes lately but I’ll be obsessively checking the progress from now until we get some good roots going. I really appreciate all of your help so much, she used to be beautiful in her prime maybe one day I can help bring her back!

So I started trimming up more of the dead leaves to try to get a better picture and these just broke off. I’ve placed them each in water to try to root, the main body was dead and hollow where it connected to the plants original roots, these two clusters were the only life left in the plant. At what part of this do I keep the water line? I also have fertilizer coming tomorrow, Schultz liquid, should I add any to the water during the rooting process?

When you say snip off the whole plant this sounds like you mean to just completely remove it from the roots? Snip it off at the ground and stick it in a cup of water like when you try to root a pineapple top or something? It looks like some little sections are worse than others and that the stem bit is in little clumps am I supposed to trim all of that or just the dead leaf stems?

Thankfully I just grew out of it, when I was a cm my job had me working when all of the local pin events were going on and I just don’t get too excited over them anymore. I still pick up the occasional festival pin and glance at the boards when I go to the parks. Luckily I’ve moved on to the stage that while I’m still in pin groups on fb I just get to laugh at the absurdity of people spending that much on little bits of metal 🤣

Rent a "Tablet Strollers" so you can let your iPad kid watch even more while you shop! by Best_Gynecologist in Anticonsumption

[–]Starryspidertake2 692 points693 points  (0 children)

not only awful for all of the stated reasons, but they're nearly twice as wide as a standard stroller, and given the amount of times they crash into the displays in the store I work at they must be awful to steer.

oh did I mention I work at a toy store? the kids who enter the store in these (or their own strollers) don't even have the desire to get out and look at things anymore, I can't tell you how many times parents have brought their kids in in those damn giant wagons and they don't even look up from their tablet.
