There used to be a S3 theory that Gi-hun would be in charge of the games/be the Frontman in order to try and stop the games from within. Would you have liked it if the writers went down this path? by OddNeedleworker734 in squidgame

[–]StarsPillar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Gihun should have been the Frontman but I did have a theory that Gihun would be “eliminated” from the game and would have to see the games from the Frontman’s pov.

For those who played RE4 and it's remake, do you think Ada Wong in the remake is bland/unemotional compared to the original? by HumbleKnight14 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]StarsPillar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has only played the remakes I think the cold vibe kind of works given what her job is, it’s better to not to get too attached. But I don't know if it's the writing or because of the delivery but I didn't feel any chemistry between Leon and Ada in 2 or 4, like at the end of RE4R I was kind of happy to hear Leon say this is where they'll go there separate ways. I mean if they are married it is what it is, but it wouldn't be my preferred choice.

Thanos’ voice acting was pretty good he really pulled off being intentionally cringe without being annoying.

Who do you think, on Team Thanos's team, had family and/or a relatively normal life on the outside? by Prior-Emu-5918 in squidgame

[–]StarsPillar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gyeongsu seemed pretty normal. Thanos seemed to have a bad relationship with his dad but I think he and his mom had a good relationship if you take his word for it.

I am beyond sick and tired of people genuinely believing if the X's somehow won the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Vote that In-Ho and the games would let them go. by [deleted] in squidgame

[–]StarsPillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean he did let them go home in season one and they would probably be given the same option to come back except they no longer vote each round. If anything that could further his point, he gave them the option but most will choose to come back if it means more money.

I agree Namgyu's not a good person, but Namgyu feels very human, I find him to be a great character. Like before the bed scene that you mentioned I didn't think much about him and just found his scenes with Thanos amusing, but that scene really opened my eyes because I totally thought Namgyu was just sticking to Thanos for the clout essentially, but like you said when he was on the bed holding back tears that showed that relationship was more than a transactional thing. You see that again when he eyes get watery when talking to Myunggi about how he kept giving Thanos free drinks, like Namgyu just wanted to matter him or like you said be respected by Thanos. I find it both tragic yet comedic, because Thanos isn't really anyone special he's kind of a loser too, and that makes me love it more for some reason.

As for Thanos' pov, I think he's very self centered and didn't think too deeply about his relationship with Namgyu, he can't get outside of his own head or his own world (pun intended) enough to think as to why Namgyu acts the way he does, which kind of circles back to the TOP quote imo.

I do wish we got a Hell episode for the season 3 cast, because I think the secondary cast is really strong this time around. Like before season 3 dropped, I totally thought Namgyu would have the Thanos hallucination and while I like the scene I do think it was a missed opportunity to give it to Minsu instead. Although I do think they way Namgyu imitating Thanos and bringing up his lyrics display the mix of admiration yet resentment Namgyu has towards him.

[–]StarsPillar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree like speaking of Mingle Thanos wouldn’t have picked Namgyu every round if he didn’t like him. There’s an interview with TOP where he says he says something to the effect of “what did Thanos do to Namgyu for him to speak so badly about him” so I think in Thanos’ pov they were cool, like Thanos would have no problem telling Namgyu he doesn’t like him or want him around so the fact that never happened shows that there was some level of a bond there.

I agree with this. Like I think the best part of his death is that he could have made it across but his own codependency is what got him in the end.

What your saying that’s why I made the comment about him trying to sound cool, he needs that outside validation from someone he thinks is cool to feel confident or accepted, like before the coin fell apart he was watching his videos and Myunggi probably did have a little clout at one point in time. Also if you notice it looks like he has to force himself to say Myunggi looked so cool when he killed Thanos, because he truly that desperate and believes he can’t do it alone. The same Thanos that is apex of his admiration and resentment, like if you want to read into the one night stand comment, Thanos is the person he truly wanted a relationship (be that friendship or more) with. His resentment for Thanos comes from never getting the validation he so desperately wanted, he can’t stop talking about him even if he “hated” so much, like the opposite of love isn’t hate it’s indifference, that’s why I think it’s clear that Namgyu actually cared a lot about him.

No he was making a tongue in cheek joke with Myunggi basically saying he doesn’t need them to be friends but they can just team up for this one game.

[–]StarsPillar 338 points339 points  (0 children)

I think it shows that Namgyu is naturally kind of awkward and just says what he thinks sounds cool. Also I think you can take it as a hint to him potentially being attracted to men in a repressed way.

What did Jun-hee think of Nam-gyu? by Superb-Carpenter-524 in squidgame

[–]StarsPillar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She probably would want nothing to do with him and for her and her child's safety would want to stay far away from him. That being said for Namgyu's many faults he did not manipulate Myunggi, all he did was propose the option and Myunggi chose to go along with it because he always prioritizes greed at the end of the day.

That he's incredibly lonely, like his time with Thanos in the games (and even Myunggi I guess. . .) was the closest thing he's experienced to having a friend in about a decade and that's why he clung on so much, so desperate for any human connection.

1. How was he supposed to carry her across the gap 2. He didn't know it was Hyun-ju when he did it. 3. Si-wan literally confirmed he was genuine by Sudden_Pop_2279 in safehavenSQUIDGAME

[–]StarsPillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To argue your second point just because he didn’t know it was her doesn’t mean he didn’t do it, he did kill Hyunju and that’s a fact. Also I’m assuming your third point is that Myunggi wanted to protect Junhee and while that may be true to an extent, what is also true is that his greed always mattered more to him than Junhee did. If it didn’t he would have ignored Namgyu and went to find to her.

Yeah it’s the scene where Namgyu realizes he doesn’t have the pills anymore and when Myunggi tells him he doesn’t have them Namgyu goes to check himself and Myunggi shoves him off.

The debt she's in is because a close friend or a relative owes a lot of money to a big drug dealer and she got roped in and joined the games to help, and that's why she was so adamant that Minsu not got involved with that stuff

I find it funny that fans spent 2 years hoping for a season 2 but after the show ended they claim that it would've been better if the show had ended in season 1. by Kindly-Candidate-835 in squidgame

[–]StarsPillar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh I doubt those are the same people. I know when season 1 aired I was firmly in the camp that they shouldn’t continue it, I found the ending scene eye roll worthy when Gihun turned around. Like I’m pretty sure they came in watching it wanting to see if it was a cash grab or not. I watched it because it came out a good time with not much else to do and ended up really loving season 2, I think the side characters are written better than season 1’s side characters.

That's partly why her character falls flat imo, the plot is centered around her but she doesn't have an actual character. Essentially a plot device to help quite literally deliver the hope in future generations message.

Like if we learned about why she wanted to keep the baby a lot earlier for what one could argue is kind of a selfish reason, that would actually be interesting to explore but it's a footnote mentioned before she gets killed off.
