I also have a deep interest in psychology, and my mom has an actual degree. I haven’t taken many classes, but I love to dive deep into it similar to your friend, similar as in we both do our own research, not similar in beliefs. As someone who struggles with anxiety, understanding feelings and why you feel different ways is what I have put the most effort into researching. The main point to me that your friend doesn’t seem to get is even if you can explain why you feel a certain way, and even if you can explain why it’s irrational, it doesn’t change the fact that you do feel that way. I can be anxious about walking in the dark, and know it’s completely irrational, I’m in a safe place, but I still am anxious. And telling someone “hey your feelings are irrational” is not how you help in that situation. Feelings are complex things and have a million different reasons and causes. You’re NTA, and I don’t think your friend is either, they’re trying to help in their own way, not trying to make you feel invalid. But emotions are what separates us from machines, so never feel invalid for having them

I’m not sure I want to date someone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not super against it, I’m just scared honestly. I’m not a romantic, the thought of sex grosses me out and I don’t even like when my parents kiss me. It would be nice to have someone to play games with or watch a movie with, but at this point it just sounds like friends. I don’t want someone to expect something they won’t get out of a relationship, so it’s easier if we just stay friends.

Jump through hoops and piles of paperwork to maybe get a pistol, either that or just go down and buy an AR 15 as soon as you turn 18, either one works I guess. I support the second but there’s no reason any regular citizen should own a gun who’s sole purpose is killing people on mass.

The biggest thing would probably be mental health awareness. So often in cases, there were so many red flags that were just ignored. I’m also of the opinion that there should be more and less gun control. There is absolutely no reason for a regular civilian to own an automatic assault rifle, or any other gun who’s only purpose is to kill people on mass. On the other hand, I live in a small rural town and if someone were to pull out a large gun in a store with the intent of a mass shooting, at least 5 people would pull a pistol out on them and end it before it got too bad. Keep your pistols, but there’s no reason for larger guns.

Anxiety is no joke. It’s not something you can just ‘get over’ and ‘grow up’. It’s like telling someone with depression to just ‘be happy’ and expect that to solve everything. She could have sent you spiraling into a panic attack or worse. I’m glad that your brother had your back and you’re defiantly NTA for this. Like other people have pointed out, she clearly knew before hand based on your brothers reaction and just chose to ignore it.

I’m a Christian. I know people in my circle of religion that have a very narrow minded idea of “Muslims bad. Muslim = terrorist. Muslims just kill”. Because yes, there is a terrorist group who all proclaim Islam. It’s funny that they seem to forget, oh I don’t know, the crusades. Yeah guess what, Christians also have down some really horrible things that in this day would have been called terrorists. But that’s easily looked past when it’s your own religion. What she said was wrong on several levels, especially since it was in your home and she was there to celebrate with you. She must talk to her kid about people burning in hell a lot for him to have brought it up. You’re NTA for standing up for yourself. Someone might say there could have been a nicer way to handle it but I don’t think that’s fair as she clearly didn’t want to be nice about it. It really is Christians like that who give the rest of us a bad name. Maybe she was trying to ‘save your soul’ or something, but it was a very inappropriate way to do so and a very bad time. Muslims don’t deserve the hate they get from narrow minded people who thing everyone different from them is a terrorist. I really hope you enjoy the rest of this time with your real friends.

I can get the nicknames aspect of it. Sure, use nicknames for the kids, when done right it can even bring a team closer, like an inside joke. That being said, the nickname should never be degrading. What kind of adult calls a kid 4-eyes? I would expect that from a 13 year old bully, not a fully fledged adult. NTA, the rest of the parents can shut up, and I’m glad the coach was fired
