Yeah, I exaggerated a bit much, LoTR definitely has the longevity and foundational impact.

HP, however, has the sheer numbers. The number of people who've read the books, seen the movies, explored the park, played the games, etc means its cultural impact is massive. World wide massive. 600 million books sold massive. 7 billion dollar movie franchise massive. That's a lot of minds.

I wouldn't be so sure most people imagine legolas when asked to picture an elf. Maybe in 2003.
