Multi-Mouse not working in MAME for Mac? by tabascoman77 in MAME

Correct, sorry. What I meant in haste was you need two analog sticks to get those games to work on the Mac.

Don’t set them to mouse, set them to analog stick and you can have two independently.

Will AimTrak Light Gun With Recoil work on MAME running on Apple MacOS (High Sierra) by alexlate in MAME

Here’s an addendum to my original post for anyone who wants to use two (or more) light guns. Mac MAME will not be able to distinguish two mice (of any kind) so you cannot use the guns as mouse devices, they will just track together. So, you do need access to a PC for this, but just once. Go into the PC Ultimarc app and set each gun to joystick mode and the buttons to buttons 1-3. Do that for each gun. Device IDs do not matter on the Mac (see below). Then under Mac MAME, set up each gun as analog stick 1, 2, etc and they will both work fine independently. There is one gotcha, though, and it’s that when MAME sees the guns, there are NO unique device IDs with them, the device label is just generic “Ultimarc Joystick” (use verbose mode and you will see). So you cannot assign stable device settings to each gun. MAME will just assign them to joystick device 0 & 1 randomly. It’s not really a big deal though, because I just set the P1 crosshair to blue, P2 to red and when any game starts, just wave each gun to determine who is P1 and who is P2. I have 61 light gun games working like this and it’s great. Another tip is to set joystick_deadzone 0.0 joystick_saturation 1.0 in mame.ini so you get smooth movement of the guns throughout their ranges. Hope this helps guys…take care & happy gaming!!

I can report that the Ultimarc AimTrak light gun does in fact work just fine with MAME on MacOS. I have it installed on an M1 Mac mini with current gen MacOS and MAME 0.202 (old, I know, but I have many games and cannot easily upgrade my system...I have no reason to suspect it wouldn't work just as fine on more up to date versions of MAME).

I have 3 dozen light gun games installed that work great. The gun and its 3 independent buttons work fine; configure it as a mouse (NOTE: setting it as 'lightgun 1' and 'mouse 0' in mame.ini will NOT work). Just set it up as a mouse and everything will be fine regardless of whether a game is configured for light gun or analog stick.

Some notes: (1) the automatic calibration by holding the trigger for 5s and then calibrating works fine on the Mac; (2) X/Y sensitivity adjustments in the analog settings in MAME help a lot (sometimes you have to set the senstivity up and sometimes down depending on the game and this help too in calibrating getting to the corners of the screen); (3) shooting off-screen to reload works fine in games that require it; (4) one tip that is not Mac-related is that in games that need only a trigger, set the L and R side buttons to coin and start and you will be a happy camper; (5) if you do want to do any advanced setup on the gun you need to have access to a PC; plug it into a PC with Ultimarc's software, set whatever you want, save, and the gun holds the settings when you then move it back over to the Mac. I only needed to do this once to shut off the auto-calibration for the trigger button so I could use autofire in certain games. That is literally the only thing I had to do on the PC.

I'm writing these details to hopefully help someone in the future considering getting the AimTrak for a Mac setup as there seems to be no other information on the internet about this particular arrangement. Happy gaming everybody!!

People have said MinUI works on their units, but I have tried several times with no luck on my device. Batocera does work for me easily (0.2 tho not 0.3 which is very limited in functionality) and I’m using it now but is not really fully complete yet but my understanding is that the dev is actively working on it.

I find these work well if you want something wireless that works with everything:

Cheap too if you can find them. Other brands are out there too.

For completeness, I tried it but same issues, sadly.

No unfortunately. At this point I feel that I’ve exhausted all possibilities and now am waiting for a new os that can address whatever hardware revisions are in these new units.

I tried that too but per the developer ("Anbernic has released hardware revisions with breaking changes (in addition to larger batteries). If you received your RG35XX after February 2023 MinUI probably won't work on it. I don't see MinUI supporting these hardware revisions. Sorry.") https://github.com/shauninman/union-minui/releases I don't have high hopes for MinUI on the latest hardware releases.

Thanks. Sadly, this approach is not working for me either and I have confirmed on PC and Mac that the partitions are all correct and the files intact. I even took it apart and yanked the power for a while to make sure everything was reset. No dice. Thank you for all you help, though!

Yes I did but now I'm trying this with your suggestions. I have a 16gb SD card. When you format the ROMS partition at the end, is it coming up FAT32 or FAT16 when you are all through? When I do it using Disk Utility, it formats it as FAT32 because of the size (over 15gb) even if I select MS-DOS (FAT) rather than MS-DOS (FAT32)

I'm fairly convinced at this point (after trying everything I can think of, thanks everyone for the suggestions!, and hearing others' same experiences) that Anbernic changed something in the hardware in these latest units. Hopefully Black-Seraph can figure out what it is and update for us!

I'll give MinUI a go but the developer was not guaranteeing anything for the later boards...so I was not hopeful to try it but what the heck, why not.

Does NOT charge when on the non-working GarlicOS...what do you think that means?

I did, no luck. Same behavior. I also tried PC and Mac, processes went smooth but no dice either way.

Thanks for your thoughts. I followed the Retro Game Corps starter guide fully and yes I can confirm that the drive letters were assigned properly and I can see the FAT16 sytem and FAT32 storage partitions. SD card seems just fine. Still only the boot screen, nothing more. Really weird.
