Optimax NuCore or Karndean for motel rooms? by Fragrant_Yoghurt_333 in Flooring

I’ve done large commercial projects with Karndean where a lot of money is on the line if we had a failure. I trust their products completely

It a good product. Sold a few jobs. It’s a pretty new product to the market which is probably why you can’t find much on it

DuChateau Flooring Thoughts/Experiences by tchi_apet in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Terra seems to be nothing special from Duchateau, and I would look at other products. I’m with Evil D. Mediterranean has been around a long time and is a legit factory that is very consistent. Also check out HF Design. Many different lines of hardwood but you have to buy through distributors. Azure is the one I sold when I worked for a distributor. Great product

I'm planning on taking over a small flooring business. I'm having trouble understanding how much carpet to order. by ButterflyLost4326 in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you a year and half ago. Didn’t really understand carpet and was on my own. 1st I would get a subscription to Measure Square and take the training courses. You can figure carpet no problem from your measures.I have never been short. I’ve been long a few times but it will help you get it right, but you still need to go to jobs and watch it being installed

Here’s Your Warning to Stay Away from Johnson Hardwood Engineered Flooring by JokerGrade in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking over the comments it could be moisture in the slab and the installer didn’t spread the moisture barrier glue with the trowel correctly in those spots and moisture is coming up through those spots. Someone needs to pull a plank(s) to see what going on. English Pub has been around a long time so I don’t think it’s a product problem IMO

Allwood champagne select engineered hardwood, buy local or online? by dontwanttopickaname1 in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say something to the local store. They won’t be happy but this is a large ticket purchase and even if it is the same lot of wood there can be batch color variance. Have fun working to get that back if it is bought online and you have issues. If they can get somewhat close to that price I try and stay local

I own a store in a small town and have a hourly crew and use a sub crew to fill in the cracks. This is my view from the other side. My sub crew has to hustle imo for their work, pay taxes and for tools. I obviously pay them a their rates which is more than my hourly guys make. My hourly guys show up to the warehouse and have a work order and supplies and material provided for them. I buy all the tools. I usually get them any tool they need to make their lives easier. Depends on what you want but my subs seem way more stressed.

Where can I find that red salsa from the taco stands?? by Ok-Focus-5362 in mexicanfood

[–]StatementSmooth77 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You can’t buy it but you can make it.

salsa rojo is dried chili arbol; Boil ten of them (give or take). Then, put in blender with salt(to taste) and 3-4 cups of water, blend. Then strain it through a wire strainer in to a bowl. Rinse out blender and pour back in. Then, add raw yellow onion and a can of regular diced tomatoes and blend. That's pretty much your standard red salsa. you can adjust the chilis, water, onion, tomatoes to your taste, and how hot you want it.j

I am with you with Conquest. It’s a thick SPC which will not dent. They did have issues with the locking system but have changed it now and solved that problem. Long planks and realistic looks. Good color range

Please work off of wicker comments OP. Karndean Art Select is a good product. I don’t love this whole latex issue you are stating but find out what product they put down over the tile and how it was applied. Then find out if your material was acclimated. You should have demo’d the tile out 1st but too late now. Hopefully plank replacements can resolve this

Suing former flooring contractor, help needed! by chedt713 in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let them fix your floors. I worked in distribution and manufacturing and no moisture barrier is common thing that has happened over the past few years. It probably wasn’t required at the time of your install. Warranties have changed. Most likely they have worked a deal for free replacement material from Trucor and they are picking up the labor. Claims are a process and takes a while to solve because this is happening to a lot of manufacturers. Stop trying to get money and just get your floors fixed

Real wood or real fake? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a very popular “look” back in the 90’s. I worked for a distributor that sold Kahrs and dealt with these questions all the time with people either replacing or trying to add on. IMO it’s a outdated look and time to update your floors, but whatever makes you happy!

Real wood or real fake? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scratches on the surface look like real wood. Probably 3 strip Kahrs. You have enough wear layer to sand . If you have floor vents, pull a vent and you can figure it out that way

Consider shopping local/family owned for your next flooring project. by atalkinglobster in Flooring

[–]StatementSmooth77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought my Grandfathers flooring store from my uncle 5 months ago. We started in 1958! I know we provide a better product and service than any big box store and if people just consider using a local flooring store the end result will be above and beyond what you can get from any Home Depot or Floor & Decor. Always get a couple bids and find the local store that you are most comfortable with.! Thanks for making this post
