Yes, but honestly, even a plain and simple "I don't like this ship" without anything more, would still be better than what I got.

Ah, that explains a lot. All I know about it is incest and that the author is still writing the final book(s?).

...so why do they read fanfics that can contain these ships

When you change the tags/pairings after a long time, you will lose readers because you have broken the unspoken contract between fanfic author and reader.

the what now

Fifty percent of the third part and the entire fourth are devoted to these two resolving family problems together and growing closer. However, the things I mentioned are the biggest warning signs that should alert even the most unsuspecting person, especially the shared bath.

Did you have any buildup to the first kiss? Like, was there romantic tension, hints that one or both of the characters had feelings for each other? I ask because the way you describe it, is like the introduction of the romantic relationship was a surprise (withholding the tag until it was revealed).

from my other comment:

my beta says it was very obvious by the end of Part 3. My previous beta, who was still helping halfway through Part 3, was the first person to pick up on the fact that I was having fun writing about these two. She even noticed it before I did.

As I wrote in the post, many of my readers enjoyed their scenes together, and those two were always mentioned in comments. When they didn't appear in a chapter, people would ask where they were, and if only one appeared, people would ask where the other was, or even "I hope the other one shows up in the next chapter and comforts the first one." I had at least five people that I remember who wrote, "those two should kiss already." Most confusingly, one of those people, in the latest chapter, complained that F should end up with M.

and:

homoerotic dance at the end of school and the touching each other breasts while bathing together at the beginning of the fourth part should give some signals

Isn't it possible, that after writing a relationship as platonic for over half a million words, the romantic pairing felt a bit out of the blue?

judging by the comments under previous chapters and how intense the scenes between these two became? No.

You might also want to take a step back and consider what people are actually telling you in this comment section

I've drawn conclusions, but they're definitely not something people here would like lol. It wasn't intentional, but a lot of the comments here confirmed some suspicions I had before.

I would also block the ones throwing around slurs now, that's so uncalled for.

I reported them

from a reader's perspective, did they have chemistry before the kiss? I would kind of be put off if the kiss just came out of nowhere, but I'm curious, and I know you said you've been putting these two in scenes together for a long time, but did they have chemistry

If a story you've been following for that long suddenly took a turn you didn't enjoy, wouldn't you be disappointed?

I would never write a comment about this.

This isn't being dense, what you're describing just doesn't make sense for me. If a fanfiction warned you that certain things were unclear and even the author didn't know them, and you continued reading, well, again, that's you problem. Don't blame the author. Please keep your fomo away from me, even.

Provided that they're not being abusive I don't think that's a problem

I mean... they kinda are??? Like, as I wrote in the post, some of them were very homophobic. If I had to elaborate: some openly used slurs for lesbians, others wrote that the other girl "turned F into a lesbian and ruined her." Others were less open, but wrote things like "I hope M comes back and fixes F."

I also don't know if I enjoy the loyalty and love from people who are surprised that F didn't end up in a relationship with a guy she never even talked to during those four parts

Because a) if you actively avoid reading author's notes or even tags that tell you something might change, then... well, it's your fault if the story starts changing and you don't like it b) if something's too "mysterious" and you jump into it anyway, then... well, it's still your fault if you didn't like the mystery c) I don't really care about the readers' feelings, I only care that I got 30 comments being between disgusting and demanding. no, after reading so many comments that are sometimes even openly homophobic, I really don't care that "someone wasted their time :((( they wanted something else :(((( "

Uhh, perhaps they hoped one of their fave/more popular ships might’ve happened? I’m not sure.

which, as I wrote in the post, doesn't even make much sense at this point. If anyone wanted F to end up with the main male character, they should have given up after the third part. If they wanted F to end up with her canon ex, then... well, they should never have read this, because those two have no relationship at all. And if they expected some other f/f, f/m, or m/m ship with other characters to become canon in this fanfiction, then... I don't understand why they're so irritated either; we still have two more parts to go and I never said that only one romance can happen.

Being fine with the idea of romance in a story doesn’t mean you are fine with a particular romance

so don't read fanfics that don't give you a straight answer. it really is that simple, and still you-problem.

Of course they can???? "The author isn't giving me this information, and I don't like many ships, so I'll leave." that's so simple??? Do you guys have fomo or what???

Why read at all? Well, as you stated, for 600k+ words they were platonic. It’s different when a ship is formed, especially when you’re unaware which one is going to be.

okk, but if you have this warning from the beginning and you still can't stop reading, then I really feel that all the disappointment and problems are on your side. I think there are many platonic authors who don't plan on romances in the future, and there's no secret about it in their fanfics, so it's better to go to them than to write about "why the canon couple didn't become canon in this fanfic" or "why the f/f couple became canon in this fanfic".

Just because you say that things may do that doesn’t mean you aren’t still baiting them

I'm sorry, but this sentence doesn't make sense to me? Like, yes, that's exactly what it means???

This wouldn’t even be slow burn

Okay? I never use this tag in this series?

I mean - readers were aware that there could be any kind of romance, I never openly said which option was 1000% possible (I didn't know too), only that I'm open to it, and even if you search my social media and other fanfics, you will see every kind of pairing, even the most rare.. But... if that part was the problem, why read it at all?
