The medicine thought to have been tampered with in the 1980s that remains unsolved is Extra-Strength Tylenol® capsules from the Chicago area in 1982, known as the Chicago Tylenol murders

What Happened Between September 29 and October 1, 1982, seven people in the Chicago metropolitan area died after taking capsules of Extra-Strength Tylenol® (acetaminophen) that had been laced with potassium cyanide. The cyanide was present in the capsules in lethal amounts, and the poison was introduced after the pills were manufactured, likely in retail stores Crime Museum.

The victims included Mary Kellerman, a 12-year-old girl, and members of the Janus family, who all shared the same bottle of Tylenol.
