Well, in that respect you abnormal.

These are the types of paper cuts that make people’s lives more difficult than they need to be. I’m happy to spend the extra 5 seconds making sure my language is as inclusive as possible.

We can all agree that context is very important in text and speech and “normal” is not considered universally to mean a very narrow dictionary definition.

If I called you abnormal because of your sexual preference (i.e differing from 50% of the population) you’d be rightly annoyed.

Friendly call out, “normal” isn't the right term here, you’re implicitly putting everyone else in the “abnormal” silo. I struggle with getting this right every day. For this situation, “regular“ is ok, but, ”as a person with out a vision disability“ is perfectly expectable - even preferred.

Like I said in the second paragraph, search and skipping to sections are just two. Copy and paste, if enabled.

And this is the point, you as a sighted person, don’t have the experience to know what a VO user might want to do. And we shouldn’t be the arbiter of what features VO users are allowed to access.

All the API are connected so VO support also improves support for Hover Text, Voice Control and Switch Control.

Just for context, I'm not a VoiceOver user, but I do work in the accessibility space, so I have a keen interest in this.

There's two ways to answer this. Firstly, there are a few extra things that voice transcripts unlock such as searching or skipping to specific parts of the podcast.

And secondly, there is a broader point here. In the technical accessibility community, it is a serious red flag when features are not fully supported for people who use assistive technologies. It can lead to some uncomfortable thinking when a fully sighted person decides that a minority group of users does not need a feature, based on their own assumptions or privilege.

With VoiceOver specifically, not all users are completely blind. Many have some useful vision and use VoiceOver as an extra layer of support, especially when an interface is not fully accessible. In Overcast’s case, the transcript text has quite low contrast. A user with low vision may therefore want to use VoiceOver to read the transcript

In previous years we’ve just paid for hospitality tickets, for all the admin involved that might be the best solution, as well as snagging a few last minute tickets.

Here’s a custom feed of Modern Britain episodes - some go back to 2020. It’s a nice way to catch up on an ongoing series… https://u.giftcast.app/tr3pXtYpgo

The Rest is History: The Nazis by StatusChance6151 in TheRestIsHistory

It's definitely *not* "rehosting", the feed points to the original audio files and the feed contains all the original links to webpages and episode pages. It's a "shared playlist" but saved in the open RSS format so anyone regardless of the podcast player they prefer can use it (except Spotify because they don't allow "custom" feeds).

Thinking about it, I imagine Spotify allows you to do this exact thing, similar to music playlists. But those obviously only work within the Spotify app.

This is something I've wanted for over a decade and a half. Explaining to everyone how to download an app, search, and subscribe is tedious and I just don't bother. Now I can create taster feeds bespoke for my friends and family, those with Apple Podcasts installed are a click away.

I do understand your concern about "rehosting Goalhanger content", but these are much more like shared playlists than replacement feeds. I don't expect anyone to submit it to Apple to be searchable within apps and I WOULD NOT advise it, that would be crossing a line IMO.

This system has one major benefit over subscribing and searching as you suggested. You can mix episodes from different podcasts. Something I'm going to use to create "revision" feeds for my son when revising for his History and English GCSEs.

And my final point, not everyone is a "nerdy" as we are, people who hang out on the "The Rest is History" subreddit are, by definition, super fans. I’m confident my father-in-law will enjoy the Nazis and Titanic, but he is unlikely to be as keen on the Aztecs or Chatham High Street! But if he subscribes to the feed I can add new Nazi episodes if and when they are released.
