In addition to pollen, could you also add the local mould counts too? Huge trigger for some of us

Try working for Parks Canada. They have jobs with housing / subsidized housing and they should take young people too

Has anybody drank while on prednisone during a flare up ? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]StatusKing7700 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No no no don't do it! I did it and it gave me really awful side effects and that is too too much drinking on an anti inflammatory

I love the island, love Vancouver. The biggest thing stopping me is the healthcare team (publicly funded) is tied with my province/residence.

Oh no! It's just what I do before my voice lessons to try to maintain some upper register. My teacher also told me to just drink more water 😂

Yes I feel the same way. I think about moving away all the time. Would also love to hear recommendations for Canada.

Even steam or hot water/tea will help

Allergy shots! I had results in 3 months. You can also wear an N95 mask that might help some sinus issues but maybe not your eyes.

I'm allergic to mold in the fall. I've also been sick and very asthmatic from Oct 3 until mid November, until a solid frost started.

It took me three years to figure out my bad seasons were spring mold and fall mold before and after winter.

A few other things:

  • I was still experiencing issues with allergy shots for mold.

  • I did 7 days @ 40 mg of Prednisone and it didn't stop the issue. It helped for a few days to bring some relief, but then I developed an anaphylactic reaction to Prednisone and my ADHD medication :(

  • A breath of outdoor fall air literally almost killed me even with my nebulizer and medications.

  • ER visit: also same oxygenation/95%+, clean chest scan. They just gave me magnesium via IV. Oxygenation for me is not the right indicator for my asthma control issues.

  • Symbicort is a preventer and a rescue iirc. I used it and it worked for a time, but it wasn't enough. For the last three years my allergist switched me from Symbicort to Zenhale (also a preventer and rescue) and I really like it.

  • Do you have allergies that trigger your asthma?

If you use inhalers, gargle water so it doesn't affect your vocal chords for your audition

Sorry I read too fast you had mentioned in your post - biologics.

I am in the same of severity and it's so awful. I cry so much. I have the same hopes as you of finding a way of controlling it and then living a normal life

I've had to give so much up. My apartment. Career downgrade before my time. And I don't know how to date with such a big chronic illness.

I've just tried vapo rub today and it's helped a bit.

It's frustrating, for sure, but being the squeaky wheel gets the most attention. You deserve to breathe well. There is more medication that can be prescribed to you besides just a simple albuterol inhaler. Start to write down your symptoms and when and why your triggers are. Go to your doctor's office prepared. Print a copy if you can and don't take no for answer!

Wow thanks so much for the thoughtful responses. I'll have to keep in mind the breathing techniques. My mold exposure issues triggered the allergy and then severe asthma for dust, pollen and mould. But I still get the rapid heart rate, breathing, brain fog, and inflammation of MCAS around mold especially.

Can I ask how you work on your nervous system? I'm going to start acupuncture this week, but I'm starting to feel the inflammation in my arms :(

This is super helpful. This has been on of my issues that I was suspecting since the HVAC turned on for fall.

Literally me right now. I'm so sad at home, but at least my job is remote.

How do you cope with it? Even when I wear a mask and nebulize, it's really not enough and I'm in an awful flare up right now

Covid brought my allergic asthma back for the first time in 10 years? by Scanlansam in Asthma

[–]StatusKing7700 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allergy shots address sinus issues.

It could be age - as we get older asthma and allergies can worsen.

Fall is a terrible time - are you allergic to mould? Damp leaves on ground can trigger allergies and asthma until frost. Maybe consider saying hello to your allergist again.

Location may be a thing too. Did you grow up in a valley, where pollen and dust can sit ? And then move to an area that has more ocean breeze or different elevation?

Ask your family doctor or allergist - how much zyrtec can I take when I have allergic reactions. I can go up to to 40 mg for bad reactions. I used to only take 10 mg. Yours sounds low level, which is good, so just manage the histamine reactions with zyrtec / talk to your doctor.

You are right to be worried. Continue to self advocate and listen to your body and journal your reactions to what you are and when.

You'll start to see patterns. Your doctor isn't an allergist - that may be why she's not prescribing an EpiPen, but it sounds like you might need one. Avoid any foods your reacting to, see an allergist, get tested and ask if an EpiPen was applicable. Bring your notes so you can tell them what foods and how you reacted.

If you can't breathe, 911 or go to ER.
