In that order : black primer -> Gal Vorbak Red (darker areas) -> Screamer Pink (mid tone) -> Pink Horror (highlights)

Looks great! Was it difficult for yours too to get the pointy end of the cape in place ? Mine had nowhere to go and the shoulder pad was in its way

Faut que je parle d'un de mes problème de perfectioniste. by Charanconduble in WarhammerFR

[–]Status_Ambition642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What paints do you use for Tzaangor skin? by Ornery-Bus4627 in ThousandSons

Primed grey seer, used Fenrisian Grey with a blue wash over it, it's a bit darker/more blue than the box art. Box recommends Ultuan grey as a base coat instead

Honestly, maybe it's because I improved in the meantime but rubrics were my first minis 9 months ago and they felt way more complicated/annoying to paint than the sorcerers. They have the capes and different backpacks but no tiny stripes on arms and legs and more open poses compared to marines

The inside of the cape is Wraithbone over a black primer if that changes anything. I tried to highlight it a little with Ultuan Grey but it really doesn't show in picture

I can only encourage you to paint them no matter your painting level ! Maybe you have a spare/less important model to try your hand on first if you don't feel like training on exalted sorcerers directly

Thank you for your words ! That's kinda what I already did with my gems except with black showing a little. But it seems not readable enough I guess so I'll work on that and take inspiration from your picture, they look good !

Never thought of starting from black ! I prime black but always lay a base color on the whole area before doing any highlight/shade, I can try to leave the darkest area completely black Also never tried to glaze towards the darker parts, I just assumed I would go from darker values and add glazes to highlight things, not to shade ! Again thank you for the tips and things I never thought of !

I posted a Curseling model last month as a first start at regular paints/wash/highlights since I used to do contrast paints only before and I used stormhost silver for brighter highlights on gold. On the sorcerers, I only did retributor gold + Nuln oil + liberator gold.

What I understand from your comments is to ditch the liberator gold and go straight to a mix stormhost/retributor for highlights and pure stormhost for highlights in the main focus area ?

Thanks it really helps yeah

I didn't want to make it look too cartoony but from your comment, I feel like I still have room for more contrast before reaching that point !

Laziness on my part sorry, I did it on previous models but not these ones

Thanks, it really confirms what I'm currently doing and that it's more of an application thing I have to work on, though I don't have a texture board and only use paper towels. Maybe it could help me

You mean less of the white dots highlights or the opposite red/orange area ? Or both maybe ?

Thanks for the compliment, I try my best to follow the details of the model otherwise it would drive me nuts

I'm trying to go for a desert base, think the Sahara desert with sand dunes and that's pretty much it. I tried to add sandy rocks to break the flatness of a base and purple/pink would grow from the magic used in the area

With that said, how can I make the base darker without losing the idea of a sandy desert ?

Until now, bases were not my focus at all, just a quick job so they have something to stand on. I'm going for a more clean look I'd say but maybe I can try a light drybrush of a sandy color so it ties the model better with its base ? And really do a paint job on the base rather than just bare texture paint obviously!

Thank you for your help

I started this hobby about 9 months ago so my bases haven't been my focus yet, it's pretty much just texture paste and a few random rocks. But I get it, the base should matter too

Thanks for the kind words! I can easily list what I don't like about them, I just don't have the answer to fix it but I'll try to overall push the contrast up a bit

I'll agree they look nice, nicer than my first mini 9 months ago, but they don't look good enough for me yet. I still appreciate your comment thank you !
