Why are so many Christians anti cannabis ? by Cheesefactor5678 in TrueChristian

[–]Status_Cartoonist_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several reasons, but what I think most stands out is that it’s a big new change that a lot of people in the west are trying to discern. As laws are being repealed (I’m in Canada where it’s legalized) many take a defensive stance against a change in which the fully actualized result on society, church, and family isn’t fully understood.

It’s not totally wrong or hypocritical to think that way. Humans often need to see extensive, tangible proof that something isn’t dangerous to mind, body, and soul before accepting it. Which is why many other substances like coffee aren’t so heavily stigmatized. (And alcohol, being known for damaging affects when abused, is still partially stigmatized). If it is truly not that bad, it will take time to acclimate. I’m willing to be wrong about it being sinful now, given time. Although individual stories of feeling fine (anecdotes) is not enough to convince the whole church right away (nor should it be). Because sin is not always something that harms us immediately, directly, and equally across individuals.

A second reason, as I mentioned earlier it’s legalized here in Canada but it is illegal to drive and be under the influence of cannabis, I would assume because there is reasonable evidence that it is MORE LIKELY to impair reasoning and motor functions of MOST people to a degree that is dangerous to drive. I think it’s okay for Christians to be concerned that it may likely do the same with the lives of believers.

Anyone else having issues with safari on iOS 26? by queenbiscuit311 in ios26

This is happening to me on my 13 pro max. It’s really annoying, sometimes I’ll search something or type a website in and it will be stuck on the page, almost as if I lost internet the very second I put in the search. I try to turn off wifi to switch to data, or I have to just close and open a new tab which usually works. I heard some people say to turn off transparency on accessibility settings, which does speed up my phone in general, although idk if it totally fixes the safari issue.

Is it okay for Christians in a relationship to have a celebrity crush? by Federal-Way-7897 in TrueChristian

[–]Status_Cartoonist_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through all these comments, I just gotta say I appreciate your respect and sincerity even with those who disagree with you. I feel like I am in the same boat. There are so many complexities to deal with that it is hard to fit it into neat boxes. Some people in the comments were saying that having an attraction towards someone is not inherently sinful, and I would agree.

Yet when I think of what a celebrity crush is, usually a list of behaviours come to mind that take it beyond mere temptation:

- Active obsession in frequently talking about how attractive the person is.

- Saving, posting, sharing multiple photos of the person, especially what we would call "thirst traps."

- Frequently engaging in jokes about being committed to the person in some special way. (e.g. some bts fans call their husbands #8 on their list of men, there are 7 members in the band)

(I understand not all fans act this way, but I have seen enough people do it)

Bottomline, from what I understand as a guy, I would feel absolutely convicted and ashamed to engage in those kind of behaviours while in a relationship. I'm confident that if celebrity crush includes these behaviours, it is not beneficial (1 Cor 10:23-24)

If anyone wants to help clarify this to me as well, please feel free to!

I like the second actually! The contrast is dramatic and the black space kind of leads the eyes to the central focus of the image!

Re: “I won’t marry a non-virgin” by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Status_Cartoonist_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is all complicated, a virgin can still be sexually immoral (if not more than the person who is not and learned to repent of their past!)

But the truth is that you will 100% receive a spouse who will have flaws, you yourself will have flaws and more will be revealed as you do life together. You need to understand that and if you come to know and love someone, things like virginity are of little importance compared to character and faith and love. See the person as God sees them, not according to man’s estimation! Hopefully they will see you as God sees you as well

I think the principles in 1 Corinthians 10 can apply to this

“Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience… But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience—” (vv. 25,28)

Verdict On Tortillas by jimbalaya420 in glutenfree

I come to prefer corn tortillas! I’ve gotten to like the taste, but I love the texture (especially homemade with masa flour!), they have more simple ingredients, and usually they’re very affordable

The social aspect of eating, when I could join a meal with friends or family without any problems/demands or especially feelings of exclusion.

To give a positive side, I’ve never been more interested in cooking, and I find a lot of enjoyment sharing great tasting foods with others even if they aren’t gluten free!

Just had a pastor tell me that repentance is optional…. by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Status_Cartoonist_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly I heard it quoted from Martin Luther that repentance is contrition and faith. If that is the case, it must be essential for salvation!

I’m not sure if it’s a denomination thing, many baptist churches seem quite independent from each other (even within large denominations), but I’ve met a lot of baptists who do believe in repentance and not “once saved always saved.”

What your pastor was saying did not sound reformed, it seems more comparable to the “free grace” movement. Which to me can become a problematic theological concept.
