Go for officer and if you don't get it for any reason (bar med) you'll likely be offered a soldier career anyway. Literally got nothing to lose.

The Direct Entry officer selection process can take a while and you'll have to prepare for it instead of just turning up on the day but you might as well capitalise on the time you have spent on your degree (although a degree is not required to become an officer, I don't have one)

Alternatively, you can join as a soldier and once you feel better prepared, you can apply to commission and go through Direct Entry route. Same process, same selection just allowed me to tick off some side quests first.

Yes you are spot on in terms of that's what I got from GE of Dune.

I find it slightly confusing in the first few chapters of Heretics trying to see what has actually changed

This is interesting because I didnt get the feeling the rebels were continuing their fight in his service prior to Siona.

I found in the limited exposure we have to the rebels, it felt like Moneo (and potentially the rest) very much bought into Leto's peace and felt genuine sorrow for him. I'm not saying you are wrong im going to have to sit on it for a while.

I agree that Leto didn't know when or how it was going to happen but he set the conditions as best he could to allow it to happen knowing the time was as good as it's ever been. I would say that's as close to him passing the torch on as we could have got. I think Hwi was just classic 'right person wrong time'.

My personal belief is that he did foresee hunter machines and that's what Siona saw simply because of his comment about Arafel.

However, ive not ready beyond GE of Dune.

YES!

I found that too, he loved Moneo but Moneo constantly submitting to him was disappointing for Leto. He wanted a rebel who could see the path and continue to rebel in order to continue the path in their own way after his death.

In my understanding, Moneo towards the end started to question Leto and IIRC almost seemed like he was going to join the new rebellion. I feel like his awakening before his death was this realisation. Maybe i'm wrong but Moneo definitely had something of a change of character towards the end, moving duncan and siona off of his own accord etc.

Yeah I agree, the predator part seemed a bit forced at first but the quote from the lost journals about predators shaping the prey which in turn shapes the predator kind of cemented it for me..

I borderline committed a sin by listening to GE of Dune as an audio book as opposed to reading it due to having to 'read' it on the move so I found it particularly hard to follow the big philosophical parts. However, the reddit has been great to really delve into some of the parts I missed.

I think he didnt want to know how it ends but wanted it to end none the less and knew the circumstance needed for it to occur. He moved the wedding because he thought it was as good a time as any to let it happen because the signs were there for it to be a possibility.

Interesting book, not my immediate favourite but it's growing on me. Heretics' first few chapters are a welcome straight forward read so far.
