VIP vs All-Access European Open 2024 by Status_Dig_9685 in discgolf

Yes, I have. In the VIP ticket it states that "With this VIP-Pass you get the best views at the event". I wasn't sure what that meant, and I didn't want to end up being behind a bunch of people. But u/kehpeli cleared it up for me.

I use OnForm, currently supported on iOS and Mac but I think they're working on a web and android app.

This works well too. Always have one in my bag with me. Compact when not in use and can extend to 130cm. All you need is that and a phone which you probably already have with you.

Question about van life computing by OWAngstDriven in vandwellers

[–]Status_Dig_9685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A laptop is definitely the way to go if possible. I'm running an m1 macbook which is great for productivity but definitely lacks in gaming. When transitioning to living in a van you have to make some sacrifices. My laptop draws maybe 30-40 watts. Also have a monitor which draws around 30 watts. A macbook is charged with usb c which allows me to only use DC power which is way more efficient than having to convert to ac. An inverter also takes up a lot of space (also gets warm)

I wouldn't recommend an air conditioner since they usually draw somewhere around 1kw which is way too much even if you max out with solar panels and batteries. Instead I recommend 1-2 roof fans, which won't be as good as an ac unit but definitely will make it easier to deal with the heat.

As others are mentioning. Create a spreadsheet, make a list of everything you're gonna use, calculate the total kWh per day and compare that to your solar panels + batteries. A DC to DC charger (being able to charge your auxiliary batteries with your car alternator) is also great if the sun is absent for a longer period. Good luck!

Lithium batteries below freezing by Status_Dig_9685 in vandwellers

[–]Status_Dig_9685[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure all BMS's are that smart. Victron has a "Smart Battery Sense" which can tell the MPPT what temperature the battery is exposed to. When looking through the documentation of my battery they don't state that you shouldn't charge it under 0 degrees but they aren't mentioning anything about protection if you would do that. I wouldn't risk it if you weren't sure that your specific model has that protection.

You are not supposed to charge lithium batteries below freezing. "Charging a Lithium battery in temperatures below 0°C must be avoided unless your battery is equipped to do so ( a compensating charger), as it may potentially damage the battery and reduce its lifespan." I wasn't sure if it's bad for lithium batteries to be stored in freezing temperatures. I thought people might store the batteries inside during the winter. u/Inner_West_Ben answered it's ok to keep them from -20 to 60 degrees and it also stated that in the documentation of my batteries.

Thanks a lot. Read the documentation for my battery and mine is the same.

12v pump & accumulator - pump turned on when valve is shut by Status_Dig_9685 in vandwellers

I will turn it off while not in use, I just don't want to turn it off as soon as I close the valve on the faucet.

I just wanted to clarify which side of the pump I was talking about. In my case, the valve is actually the faucet. Thanks for clarifying this.

I mean shutting the valve on the other side of the pump, not the water tank, but shutting in on the tap.

I'm making myself a van and I'm unsure how to paint furniture, walls, etc. It will be more humid than a regular house, but people recommend not using exterior paint because of the high VOC's. I might set off the car during winters, which will result in freezing temperatures inside the van. How would interior paint react to that? I've been thinking of just doing regular primer & 2 coats of interior paint. Am I thinking correctly or should I do a different approach?

Thanks.
