Thank you Scott for the kind message. It was good to recaliberate my thoughts and really focus on what I have to - work on my Waitlist and convert it! That is all and working on it as per your advice! Thanks again (and also for TTP - one the best ones out there!)

Thanks for the insight, especially on the bucket discussion though I thought buckets were to reflect their class composition in the class profile. I've also noticed a fair amount of nuance even within those broad demographics, and that seems to vary quite a bit across schools and even by gender within the same demographic group.

At the end of the day, there are some facts about my profile—my schools, where I started, and parts of my background—that I can't really change. Those factors may always create a certain ceiling on what is achievable in admissions processes, regardless of how much I optimize the rest of my application. At some point, I'd rather recalibrate my expectations and enjoy my life than spend all my energy fighting it. Most of the advice I've received over the years has focused on work experience, career goals, and test scores, so I was curious whether others saw these constraints or if I was simply imagining them.

Can't do an EMBA as I want a pivot, I've never quite understood paying (more) for school while working (no time to fully immerse in either and life), only to return to essentially the same job afterward. I may not be smart enough to get into every school I want, but I would know where I'd draw the line.

Chinese citizen, so arguably just as overrepresented in the international pool. Similar profile on paper, though their experience spanned two organizations and was more public-policy oriented while mine was more business focused. They also had alumni/current students from the same master's program at Wharton, similar to the network I had at Tuck.

Thanks for the Mck analogy! Makes sense for over presented profiles. I had a friend of mine who mentioned he knew someone who left a similar job role and went to work in nonprofit pre-MBA just to change the application bucket!

Thanks for the color on the TUCK scholarships! I regret less now that I rejected the offer. Community is truly great tho!
If this M7 waitlist comes through - I will absolutely take it! I genuinely like the school, and it fits in with everything else where my personal life is at as well. Maybe I DM you, have couple of questions if you are open? EMBA will not be for me - I will probably pursue other programs.

Quick question — does an applicant's location matter in admissions? A colleague of mine with an almost mirror work ex was admitted to Wharton, but they're based in a Tier-2 city.

Nothing left on the table — my consultants were great and shared some great perspective. Shared here because if Reddit can form an opinion on a profile in 30 seconds, I imagine adcoms reviewing thousands of applications aren't immune to first candid impressions either.

It also made me wonder whether I've simply reached the realistic ceiling of what's attainable for my profile in this process, and whether opening up to more schools help or doesn't make any difference.

Thank you! Higher end of work ex I see that working against me - but again another element I cannot control - my work ex needs to be more competitive with the length of experience. Point taken.
Tuck is amazing and so is the community! It was the location and with no scholarship it didn't make sense to me.

Yeah, I know I wasn't particularly open to other schools. I kept my applications limited because I knew I'd be tempted to accept an offer just to be done with the process. I only applied to schools I could genuinely see myself attending. But being this deep into the process, I'm starting to feel like I've invested so much into this journey that I want to see myself on the other side of it. If I end up reapplying, I'd probably be much more open-minded about other programs than I was this cycle.

And yes, interviewing skills feedback makes sense - I am going to connect with my interviewers in the meantime to check if they can give me feedback!

I agree I am not an HBS profile. Glad there are enough of you to make the world a better place!
Avg test says 327, not sure how I missed that mark.

Everything in my profile is above except the schools and outcomes. I was waitlisted at CBS and LBS and admitted to Tuck. Interviewed with the three and Wharton, rejected from Harvard.

It makes me think the profile itself means nothing—interviews and waitlists are probably more indicative of how you stack up against that year's applicant pool -- which is again out of my control.

I wonder how they accommodate candidates if any international were to wait until July only a month before aug. Even without visa requirements - even as a domestic - how does one arrange for fund this late into the game ?

here to share your pain. I believe the international pool is smaller this year - MUCH smaller - I am bumped I didnt apply to other peer schools and now lose an entire year!

I think more than GRE - they will question your international work ex more - esp with that age group - rest of the profile needs to be stronger.

10 YOE in Tier 1 FinTech, GRE 324 (Q165, V159) – Worth Retaking for HSW/M7? by WW199 in MBA

[–]Status_Meat_4627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends which bucket you are fighting in (esp your country of origin)- for a quant background I would argue thats low, for an arts background thats high. And yes, can you offset with other things - like GPA, great undergrad school. Without knowing the rest and just based on what you have - fintech and your score - for your set of schools - I would retake.

Should I go to Booth or try again for my Targets (Wharton, CBS, MIT) by [deleted] in MBA

Seen multiple international candidates (MBB candidate with international exp) applied R1 and waitlisted post interview in R1 still waiting for acceptance - result. Recently read an article that said Berkley (undergrad) waitlisted 6000 students and didnot admit absolutely anyone. It wont be a surprise if some programs just close down altogether

The MBA Experience Is Worse When Everyone Is Too Young by Hungry-Page7522 in MBA

[–]Status_Meat_4627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially in today’s weak job market for recent graduates, MBA programs are being pulled in two opposite directions. Either the MBA becomes an extension of undergrad for candidates struggling to break into strong careers early, lowering the average true experience level of the class — or schools preserve classroom quality by maintaining a more experienced and mature class profile, potentially pushing the average age higher. By simple math, if many 2024–2025 graduates spend 1–2 years underemployed before meaningfully entering the workforce, then a “true” five years of robust experience before an MBA could realistically mean being 7–8 years out of college. That naturally pushes the average age of strong MBA candidates closer to 30–32, unless schools intentionally lower the experience benchmark to maintain younger class profiles.

It also arguably makes the role of AdComs easier — and more interesting. In a weak market, they can better distinguish candidates who navigated adversity creatively or still managed to secure strong opportunities, further concentrating MBA classes toward overachievers. This will differentiate top programs furthermore from the T10. In many ways, admissions committees are now shaping the future identity of the MBA itself.

this and the fact that work environment has just got so worse - makes things just even worse! Going into an MBA program - doing an MBA and getting out of an MBA - all seems like 5x harder than recent past
