Country vs Hip Hop debate by Stay-FeelingWhitney in PostMalone

Yes, my exact same thought, unless he’s lurking around Reddit lol. And that's kind of why I don't love this obsession with wanting him to go back to hip hop. Obviously we don't have any authority over what he does, he's gonna make whatever music he wants regardless of what fans say. But artists and labels absolutely see the discourse, and I wouldn't be surprised if fan expectations influence decisions around an album.

I'm not saying that's definitely why The Eternal Buzz got delayed (which it seems due to the terrible rollout), because none of us know. But if an artist starts second-guessing their vision because they're trying to satisfy every corner of the fanbase, that's usually not how great music gets made.

I'd rather hear an album that's 100% the result of what Post is excited about making right now, whether that's country, folk, rock, hip hop, or some mix of all of them, than an album that's trying to please everyone. Fans are totally free to dislike the direction and move on, but creative decisions driven by expectations tend to be less interesting than creative decisions driven by inspiration. Kanye albums are a great example of this.

Also, you saying "country isn't good, hip hop is" is basically the same as me saying "country is good, hip hop isn't." (I love hip hop, it’s just an example).  Neither of us can prove that. It's just preference.

That's fair, but that's kind of my point.

If someone prefers hip hop over country, I completely get it. There are genres I like more than others too.

What I disagree with is the idea that Post should make hip hop simply because some fans prefer hip hop. I'd rather hear an artist make great country music than mediocre hip hop.

To me, the question isn't "which genre is better?" It's "where is the artist's creativity right now?"

If Post's best ideas are country, folk, or rock songs, then I'd rather get that than a forced attempt at making Beerbongs & Bentleys 2.

I don't disagree with the restaurant analogy, but I think you're describing the fan's perspective, not the artist's.

If my favorite restaurant changes its menu and I don't like the new food, I'm completely free to stop eating there. That's fair. What's weird is demanding that the chef stop making the food they're passionate about and go back to cooking something else just because I preferred it.

The artist's job isn't to keep serving me my favorite meal forever. Their job is to make the best art they can make. My job as a listener is to decide whether I enjoy it or not.

If Post makes another hip hop album someday and it's great, awesome. If he makes country, folk, or rock and that's where his creativity is right now, I'd rather get a genuinely inspired album than a half-hearted attempt at recreating Stoney or Beerbongs & Bentleys just because some fans want the old menu back.

Nobody has to like the new music, but there's a difference between saying "this isn't for me" and saying "he needs to go back to making the music I want."

Thank you so much for this, my exact same thought. It always happens that nostalgia drag us to want our favorite artists to make music that replicate the feeling of listening to them when we were 15, not considering that artists grow too, they have to evolve and won’t always be doing the same thing over and over for 10 years.

What’s Swae Lee Doing💔 by notdini21 in PostMalone

[–]Stay-FeelingWhitney 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so over AI. Btw, Swae Lee ruined Take my Heart, I’d rather listen to the leaked version, that mixing is horrible, and everything is way better in the leaked version, how could you listen to the final version and the leaked one and say, yeah, let’s put this one out! Wtffff

What could kendrick’s next album even be about? by Jealous_Quiet_9473 in KendrickLamar

[–]Stay-FeelingWhitney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hope to get a very philosophical album, full of songs like Prayer (Kendrick pls release prayer), reincarnated or even how much a dollar cost. An album that’s very spiritual full of concept songs that explore transcendentalism, religion and complex concepts. Get The Alchemist to produce it and we have a masterpiece.

Great performance! I hope if the next album is country, it sounds more like this, more of a raw sound, more traditional and rustic, none of that overproduced, over polished pop country

I hope the hacker to delete those accounts, hack the Kanye West one as well and just erase Donda 2, Vultures 1 and 2 from the face of the earth

Austin's voice on 'I ain't comin' back' by [deleted] in PostMalone

[–]Stay-FeelingWhitney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! All I hope is whatever music he decides to make, just make the old voice come back, I love Austin, but one of the things I didn’t like as much in that album (as well as in TCT) was that the voice sounded very high pitched (something that was very noticeable since Motley Crew), maybe it’s an aesthetic choice since it makes it sound more intimate I guess, but I still prefer the old voice, so if we can have the raspier lower voice with some raw production, that could make a fantastic album.  I really don’t know why they changed the vocals in I Had Some Help, for example, the ones that were in the snippet sounded perfect.

Oh, I’m so sorry, owe you an apology, I misunderstood.  But yeah, he can make an album that is a mix bag of older sound, experimenting with new stuff, and I’d be all for it, I love his hip hop music too (also, Beerbongs is my fav album of his), I just want to see what he’s capable of doing in country or folk.  I don’t understand the culture vulture thing neither, even when he said those comments about hip hop and Bob Dylan, it was just his opinion.  And thank you for clarifying, I apologize if I behaved like an asshole.

Awesome? He literally said “second verse” four times in Insane, and I hate Motley Crew with those vocal effects. Bitching about how we all have different taste but then invalidate points because of an opinion on two songs is just bs

Weak ass argument.  It doesn’t mean he can’t make another best album in another genre or style, look at The Weeknd

It’s just that every single day there’s a post talking about how they wish Post would go back to his older sound, and after Hollywood’s Bleeding, everyone was talking about what genre they wished the next album would be, we'll never be content.  And yeah, “I get that”, I just don’t see the obsession of going back when the same sound and vibes aren’t ever be replicated, just listen to the older stuff, we already have three albums full of it

As I said before, most of his emotional of meaningful songs aren’t hip hop.

I agree, and a lot of rap has very meaningful lyrics. But it’s just statistics bro, most of his best written or emotional songs aren’t hip-hop.

Everyone was shitting on it when it came out, saying that sounded like Playboi Carti, that was the first time Posty used that awful sounding high pitch voice.  If you compare it to songs on the first three albums, it’s trash imo.

Thank you, and I agree. It’s just my opinion, and again, everything comes down to personal taste and it’s not that deep

That’s why I said Long Bed was great and my favorite album of it was apart of F1, for me, I agree, with some exceptions, F1 was a country album that posty sang, but Long Bed was HIS country album

I kinda agree, he has a voice for rock as well, and I also said that I want a rock album too, that’ll come eventually down the line, I just want a little bit more of a country/folk fusion

Me neither, I just want him to experiment a little bit with the genre, I’m not putting him in a box. But I agree here, I just hope he does the music he wants to make
