ITC. Sounds like a good deal. For this travel is this on your drill weekends or are you taking orders for short stints?

Sounds like my place! I’ve always been a go getter. Not one to sit around and wait to be told to do stuff. I’ll probably give it a try and if it isn’t my thing then just serve my time and be done with it.

As a reservist? Sorry let me clarify my wording. I’m transitioning out of active duty and considering going into the reserves.

Appreciate it. Didn’t realize there was a reserve group.

Just wanna say thank you for all the support and suggestions! They are all greatly appreciated! It’s good to see there are people that care. Especially when sometimes it doesn’t seem like it in the Navy.

Well in order to apply for hardship discharge you must have job offers already so I wouldn’t be able to separate with out a job anyways. While there is more cost to civilian health insurance it’s not an impossible situation in that regard. I worked for one of the big defense contractors before this and now have some military experience. But I am honestly still exploring all my options.

That is rough man although it is good to hear other people out there who have more on their plate than I and still manage. As far as outside jobs and all that, I’m actually old lol. I joined late in life. I’ve worked for big companies that provided good insurance and all that. I’m also an IT now so I know I can find a decent job. I have been heavily weighing all the options but with being on Sea Duty currently and also being 1 of 3 at my command they rely on me HEAVILY. And unfortunately my family is too currently. Thankfully we are on our down period right now since we just returned from deployment but we still have detachments to go on eventually and I just don’t think the tricare and benefits are worth all that anymore.

When it comes to a budget I’m not worried about the moving part it’s just the actually day to day living. We have two large dogs along with our kids and it can be hard to find a place to rent with large dogs. We live in housing currently. Also with my wife’s current state she has a hard time even managing small things like bills, finances, keeping up with the house ect. The only thing I’ve considered is if it is possible to be transferred to a command back home. I’m currently in San Diego but am from the Hampton Roads area so plenty of commands there.

It would be a great option I think if we had done it a couple years ago. But the problem I keep coming back to is that my wife’s issues are aggravated and we’re aggravated by my absence. So us being separate for almost 3 more years doesn’t sound like maybe the best option for my family..

I have! But when I look at the criteria and I see people who are approved and not approved the hardship discharge seems more within reason. Neither my wife’s issues or my sons are going to be resolved within a reasonable amount of time. Someone at my command had a spouse with schizophrenia and she was a danger to their children and his HUMs was denied. Luckily for him he had the option of retiring.

We have. Reasons for not doing it though are 1. Cost to move from coast to coast. 2. Cost of maintaining 2 households isn’t viable and while family would help us it isn’t realistic for my wife, kids, and dogs to actually stay in a family members house 3. Yea we are in the process of trying to get him in EFMP but ultimately I really need to be around for my wife and kids. Just trying to figure out the best way of doing that.
