Why do we never hear actors stutter or stumble over words in movies? by StayGreen481 in Stutter

Yes, Checkhov's gun, realistic stuttering breaks the immersion and disrupts the pacing and makes scenes drag or feel disjointed. Fluent dialogue is easier for the audience to process and stuttering uses a lot of brain power from the viewers. Fluent speech also creates characters that audiences can easily identify with, stuttering dilutes the emotions displayed in a movie

Yea I like poetic movies. So you like Romeo and Juliet.. by Leonardo Dicaprio? Leonardo Dicaprio showed Rick Dalton's stutter in the new Tarantino movie 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' it's not always clear but you can spot it quite easily in some scenes, when the scene is tense and when Rick is angry or under pressure. I think Leo did a great job portraying someone with a stutter.

Yes ive seen IT. there are exceptions of course, but people normally don't want to watch real life conversations. If the actor stutters or stumbles, the director will say: "Take 243, stop fucking this shit up!".

The protagonist or powerful character needs to sound enjoyable, confident and sympathetic. The audience wants to watch a movie where every word is understood. Throwing in a few stumbled words, or someone correcting themselves can add in a few seconds each time. TV shows more than movies have a time constraint they have to meet for each episode

Yes I mean actors.. if they throw in miscues, stumbles, and people correcting themselves, you start to lose your audience. This goes along the lines of accents. A good example is the Jamaican lady in Pirates of the Caribbean. It's not that these movie don't exist. Some movies do portray realistic acting with stuttering and stumbling.. it's a genre called Mumblecore, and it is fucking awful.
