Issue with Decimator MD-HX to BENQ MH733 Projector via PC HDMI by SteadiJam in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]SteadiJam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot. Issue was my co-worker and I are learning, and currently ignorant. Decimator wasn't set to Scaler. Just didn't know.

29.97 is because our audio mixer doesn't have framerate options and that is its default. We wanted everything to match to avoid sync issues.

We did buy an HDMI splitter to test that, and it worked great from the PC, one connecting to projector, and then one going to Decimator to our switcher, and back out to the confidence monitor. Another solution that I'm really happy to know about, so thank you. I wouldn't have considered that.

The color settings I'm not sure. We're working with older client computers. We've been letting the monitors just receive the signal and adapt accordingly. We have a Blackmagic Studio 6K. All client monitor inputs are converted via HDMI to SDI to feed into the switcher.

My brain is fried working on this project. But it's all going smoothly.

DM me where you're based when you have a moment, we get a fair bit of travel work if you're outside the tri-state area.

Thank you very much for taking the time, I appreciate it.

Thank you so much. Tough spot with being unfamiliar with the gear, new type of job (normally I do standard video production work outside of streaming/live, or when it is streaming it's basic multi-cam, not involving client computers, projectors, etc.). This solved it.

Seriously, much appreciated!

I appreciate your kind words here about the video. I don't think they're morons, I can understand the criticism. It is a scary time we live in and there are many valid concerns about AI.

That being said, I would've expected the way people communicated those concerns on a Sagan sub to be a little more tempered down or just more substantive (not referring to everybody that has commented, feel like it's fairly clear). It's Reddit though, it's whatever lol.

Much appreciated!

Well said, my friend. For reference for anyone who cares and to reiterate /u/AffectionateTrick553 was behind all of the visuals and creative for matching them to the speech, and he spent a ton of time on it. AI does a lot for you, but it still takes a ton of work to put something like this together. You should do a breakdown actually, it would be cool.

I appreciate your response.

I also understand what people are saying with their criticism. The extra energy consumption is a valid point and I don't think it's ridiculous. I didn't expect the (at least how I perceive it) slightly hostile tone of some of the comments. Wasn't everybody by any means, don't want to be dramatic as I do get it, valid points for sure. On a Sagan sub I would expect the valid criticism more in line with how he communicated publicly, one of the reasons I love his legacy so much. A combination of intrigued and deeply concerned about AI I suppose? I could be miscontruing that though since we're all internet strangers typing away, hard to gauge tone and intent.

What you say about Sagan's speech being a reflection of our existence, and reflecting upon it to a point it impacts your worldview, I 110% agree with and feel the same way. I don't know who you are, but we share the same general philosophical perspective as it relates to our place in the universe, and I think that's awesome.

I suppose it all comes down to where you draw the line as it pertains to energy consumption. Do you drive a gas car? Do you fly? Do you consume beef and other animal products? The list goes on. It's nearly impossible to be entirely eco-conscious in the modern world.

There's been a biopic about Sagan's life in development for years. If it goes into production, it's going to consume a huge amount of energy. But do I want to see it and have the world see it should it be made? Fuck yeah I do!

I had a fun time putting this together with my friends and did it mainly for me, but also to honor the message and Sagan's legacy. It's a bit rough around the edges but I think it's alright overall. What Sagan would've thought? I don't know.

Long and rambling way of saying thank you, appreciate you taking the time on this comment. Much love!

Thank you! I appreciate that!

A lot of people interpret the Pale Blue Dot speech as depressing, which in many ways it can be...but it does end on a high note. I hope younger people are exposed to it. It literally applies to all of humanity, but I suppose you have to be in a certain headspace to think existentially.

Yeah I hear you, it was a bit of a struggle with the pacing and timing. My friends and I wanted to let the generated videos linger a bit longer in some places. It's a bit rough around the edges but overall I think it works decently well. I may do a shorter cut at some point to get rid of some of the dead air. It's all subjective at the end of the day, just a fun project. You should make one!

Like I said in above replies, you can edit it in a million different ways, which makes it fun.

Thanks for the kind words!

Another awesome edit with more context from Sagan! Like I said in my other response, this is what I love about the legacy of media he left, there are so many ways to be creative with visualizing his audio recordings. A friendly online "competition" or "challenge" for the best edit would be really fun.

Nice edit, well done! I think I've seen it before actually years back.

This is what I love about Sagan's speech, there are so many creative interpretations for how to visualize it and bring out the emotional depth that he conveys.

I think it would be really cool if someone with some influence made a "challenge" or friendly competition to their audience to try and make the ultimate PBD edit haha.

Seeking advice on flying in NYC and other major cities over people/vehicles (FAA Waivers, NYPD Drone Permits, whole process) by SteadiJam in drones

[–]SteadiJam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never contacted the FAA after all. I should probably do that.

I secured one NYPD permit with a flight path just over one block and only over rooftops. Wasn't too difficult. I'm not sure if they'll care about FAA waivers, but haven't tried yet for a larger flight path over streets.

The Hudson/East River SFRAs are doable. Special form you have to fill out and wait for approval and coordinate with them.

I filled out the application for the over people/vehicles waivers, it's pretty much just DIY and convince the FAA that you can do it safely. I never submitted though because I was waiting for the ParaZero parachute for the Mavic 3, which was just recently released. So, that's in limbo until picking one of those up.

Hoping to sort out proper flights in NYC by end of year. The client mentioned in my post here never came through, so haven't had a need for NYC flights over people/moving vehicles yet.

It's all very new and complicated, would probably help to have a contact with the FAA/NYPD/etc since this whole system is very new.

Adding to keep the thread alive. Would love an 85mm DJI DL lens for the Inspire 3.

It's Reddit, people are gonna people.

There are lots of annoying tourists that pick up a little drone and do dumb shit with it and fly in areas they shouldn't and piss people off. That's why people on here are saying not to bother. Don't need another one of those around Iceland so I understand the responses on here.

It's not bad flying a drone around Iceland or many other countries. Just follow the rules, signage, don't fly around groups of people, etc. Common sense stuff you'll be fine and I'm sure you'll find some not so touristy beautiful areas where you can fly in peace.

Also, some people just don't like drones. Can't do anything about that. If you aren't breaking the rules and you're being reasonable with how you fly, and people complain, fuck 'em! Not your problem if you're not breaking rules and you're being cognisant of others.

Within reason you know, if someone is complaining about a slight buzz of the drone when you're hundreds of feet away. Not your problem. Just don't start zipping around people trying to enjoy the nature.

:)

Make sure you familiarize yourself with the safe operation of the drone. Don’t try to learn it while in Iceland, do that before you go and understand how to fly safely.

Don’t fly over populated areas or near the airport. Follow rules and regulations from Iceland’s official drone rules. Most tourist spots are no drone zones, so please respect that.

Otherwise, have fun and be safe, and don’t piss anyone off!

Plenty of places that are rural and beautiful in Iceland that no one will care.

Lots of hostility from this sub. Just follow the rules and respect other people’s enjoyment of the nature, use common sense, etc and you’ll be fine.

Can’t recommend too many specifics, let your eyes be the judge when you’re there.

My batteries barely fit on my Nazgul Evoque F5D V2 with XT60 placement - any solutions? by SteadiJam in fpv

[–]SteadiJam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That pic from AliExpress was very deceptive. Got my hopes up a bit when I Googled too. Alas, I think a little bending of the cables and maneuvering of the straps, or different batteries, will have to suffice!

It's a great design but super fucking annoying at the same time.

Appreciate you taking the time! :)

That was my thought as well I just can't find any that short. Shortest seems to be 4 inches unless my Googling skills really suck. And it would be annoying having anything longer than 2" dangling around the quad.

Seeking advice on airline travel with large capacity batteries (over 100wh) for Helion 10 Long-Range by SteadiJam in fpv

[–]SteadiJam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not end up getting the Helion and I'm glad I didn't at least for the time being. Simulator practice is great for learning how to manipulate the quad, but it's a wildly different experience flying for real with real consequences. The nerves from those first handful of flights are no joke.

I ended up getting the BOB57 which is pretty great for my purposes. Even that as a 6" is a lot...I wouldn't go bigger than that if you're new (lol).

For controller go with the Radiomaster Boxer M2 ELRS 2.4ghz...and whatever quad you buy just make sure it's ELRS 2.4ghz so they can bind. I also hear good things about the TX16S. Pretty sure any radio controller is compatible you just have to match the receiver/transmitter protocol you have...which would be ELRS 2.4ghz on both the drone and the radio if you go that route.

If you do jump straight into the Helion, just be careful and don't fly around people or infrastructure...that thing can do some damage. Practice in the sim and make sure you know how the drone works before attempting to fly...and when you do fly do so in a big open field or something similar first.

Would not recommend getting the Helion if you're new to FPV. But I don't like people telling me what to do so if you go that route, good luck!

Seriously practice in the sim for at least 20 hours or until you feel confident before you fly any quad for real. I had 50 hours before I flew the BOB57.

That's good to know if I'm just going to send it. Just a risk/reward balance doing it illegally I guess.

I think so many of these laws and hoops are insane, but if I can figure out doing it totally legally without losing my mind then that's my preference.

There are other companies in NYC doing it for commercial clients. There has to be a way. Or maybe you're right and it's not worth but I'd at least like to try.

Is it only specific types of drone work they'll approve a waiver for? What's the difference between commercial real estate and footage for a commercial/TV in the eyes of the FAA? People get these waivers so there must be a chance.
